You need the non vented. To swap to the 95 & later opti's you'll need a few items like timing cover, vacuum line, I believe the cam as well...but not sure. It's not worth it IMO.

Hey:

You Need the 92-94 type1, non vented if going with a MSD, but also be advised all MSD OPTis are vented they are just replacing the non vented spline drive type1 OPTi. The non vented MSD replacement comes with a vent kit. Hope this helps. The 95-97 are pin drive and as stated above, req a different Cam pin, timing cover, and timing gear drive set.

imo the only way to go on the 93-94 lt1's is to get the msd cap and rotor so it can be converted to a vented opti. its fairly easy to install and gives better results over the nonvented

I bought the 8481 kit for $155.00 last fall. Code 36 made me replace the dist. in April. When I got it apart I found rubbing/ fitment issues with the MSD isolator. I tweaked it to eliminate that. While doing that, I thought I could make the well-fitting Delphi cap & isolator vented. $5.00 vent harness off a Fleetwood at the u-pick-it and $7.00 worth of vacuum fittings and hose...

I like the MSD cap & rotor. I just hate spending $150.00 on top of the $275.00 I paid for the Opti just so I can toss the cap & isolator. I'll buy a mirror and watch myself starve to death before I do that again. See opti mod in my sig- one way to do it yourself.

You can:

1) Install the Delphi OE non-vented as is (3 weep holes in the bottom lets moisture in, condensation drip out).

2) Buy MSD 84811 full dist. unit for $500.00 and install it with the vent harness that comes with it (need to drill a hole in the intake elbow, but that's it).

3) Buy the MSD 8481 cap & rotor kit (*part # one digit difference from the whole dist.*) to put on a non-vented Delphi unit (discarding the Delphi cap & rotor)

4) Mod the Delphi unit to be vented yourself, get a vacuum harness for it from a junkyard or dealer (dealer wants about $75.00, I paid $5.00 for mine off a Fleetwood).

depends what it has stock, as opti 1's have seals to change and opti- 2's do not. If you can, alter to go with the opti -2 as the venting was obviously necessary for longevity. I picked mine up at AZ and is lifetime.
