What to use to fill on "Corvette" on FRC's?
I was looking at Napa Saturday but I didn't see anything that really looked like would bond to ABS plastic.
For those who have filled in the "Corvette" on their FRC's, what did you use?

I'll be sure to take an electric sander to it.
What color is the epoxy itself? Tan? Clear?

Bondo works good. Just make sure you rough up the surface area, where you'll be applying it!

I know I'm gonna get squawked at for this but what's wrong with Corvette on the FRC's? After all it is a Corvette engine graciously loaned to PMD for the f-body's. Without the Corvette engine I don't think these cars would have gotten a decent powerplant as proven pre 1985. I think it adds to the car knowing that the Corvette engine is planted in a f-car for almost half the price of a Corvette. Also you don't have to worry about scratching the paint on the factory FRC's everytime you take them on & off as they are much more durable being molded in colour. Just my opinion!

I used 'Dynalite Plastic Filler', it was in a quart size can right next to the Bondo. I cant remember if I got it at O'Reileys or Home Depot, but those were the only two place I looked for it at, and it was at one of them. Its a two part epoxy, just link Bondo. Once it hardeneds, its still pretty flexible like plastic. I can bend my FRC's some what, and I dont have any bondoed 'C,O,R,V,E,T,T,E' popping out. Good stuff!

I used epoxy in a bronze colored package that i found in the plumbing section of home depot.
And do yourself a favor...use a big electrical sander to sand it down. Geez...just did mine over the past two weeks. Epoxy sux.

Re: What to use to fill on "Corvette" on FRC's?
Actually, just about any plastic filler or epoxy should work. Personally, I would use one of those two part epoxies that boasts it can be "machined, drilled, or filed" after curing. Those usually have the best adhesion. And you want to make sure to seriously rough up the FRC's where you plan to fill in the letters, because plastics and rubbers do not like glue very much at all, and usually have a hard time holding it. Ideally, if you have a bead blaster, or access to one, use that to rough up the spots, that is the best way, otherwise, get some rough sandpaper (60-80 grit, but nothing finer than 100), and use that, but make sur to get all in the bottom and sides of the letters. Afterwards, when you are done with the elecric sander, make sure to use a fine grade of sanpaper (350-400) grit as a finishing process to leave your FRC's nice and smooth for whatever painting you plan to do to them. If you have a bench grinder, may I suggest that you use a buffing wheel mounted on one of your spindles to add a bit more polish to the freshly sanded surface. This will add a smoothness that you cannot achieve with sandpaper, but you will need to use soap and water to properly clean off the crud left on your FRC's.

Excellent, thanks!
Another question, short of a dremel, how are you getting into the letters to sand them?

Sand Blast the things, that will rough them up enough, and get in the cracks, just clean them very good before bondoing, try using hot soapy water, then use some contact cleaner, but make sure to get the kind that won't eat the plastic.

Re: What to use to fill on "Corvette" on FRC's?
Thanks Guys. I'll look for both Bondo and Dynalite. I looked for Bondo at Napa but they didn't have any. I was concerned that Bondo wouldn't "bond" with the ABS plastic that the covers are made out of.
Why fill in Corvette? While I love the look of it, A) I don't own a Corvette, B) Don't want ricers calling it "rice" like they have in the past (don't make the arguement that it's a Corvette motor..they don't comprehend this and I get tired of trying to explain it) and C) you can only see "COR"on the drivers side and "TTE" on the passenger side anyway as my STB and then the cowl cover up the rest.
Instead, I was gonna find some Z28 badges, paint them Cayenne Red (my cars' color) and put them on the front of the filled in and repainted FRC's.

I would stay away from Bondo. My body man told me when he filled my grille holes that flexible materials must be filled with flexible fillers or you will have trouble with adhesion, cracking, shrinking, and filler falling out.
He used a plastic filler on my bumper cover. The paint and primer on all of our plastic parts are flexible too.

C) Anyone who counts can figure out it says Corvette
Anyway, I respect your effort to individualize your car and wish you good luck with it. I like my frc's stock with Corvette on them and I hope that you can respect that as well.

Corvette motor...damn i get sick of hearing that. It's a 346 LS1 pushrod V8 motor made by general motors. Are people with Firebirds supposed to say "Dude...you got a Grand Am motor in there!! Gnarly!"
And in light of this thread, my fuel rail covers were installed tonight after a month of work on them and they look freakin bad ***..with the corvette filled in with epoxy. I'll post pics tomorrow.

What's the going price for the frc's? I saw them once I believe from an aftermarket supplier (minus "corvette" script) for some ungodly amount of money.....$220.00 I believe
I'm considering some frc's for my 'bird.....pm me or just email me if you can offer any advice.

Like I said, after two years of running around with it saying Corvette, I simply want to customize it now.
