With 5k I would do a cam, half the suspension, rearend, rims/tires, clutch.
The cam and all the items for the install (timing chain, valvetrain parts rockers, locks, retainers, springs) will end up being 1k or 1250 total.
Sus- shocks/springs, subframe connectors, new bushings/bumpstops, TQ arm. 1200-1600
Rearend, you can find a 9 or 12bolt for 1500-1600 used. Watch the FS section. There are also lots of guys looking to trade their 9 for a 10 bolt and Cash.
Either get some 17x9's on all four corners or slicks n skinnies.
CLutch, Spec 2+ or Ram HD.
Well theres your budget.

I would get some 21* TFS and get them ported out and a cam tailored to your set up/goals! then I'd spend the rest on suspension, wheels & tires. I'd cheap out on the rear and just buy a spare 10broke when yours starts to go, or maybe even a budget 8.8 depending on what you spend on suspension.. but thats just me
what are your goals? street/track? straight line or curves?

Spend anything left after the heads+nitrous on suspension or save it towards a new rear end...the stock one wont last on a sprayed H/C M6.

I would figure out what goals I want to reach and start there. Personally I wish I would have done it this way.
Full Bolt-on's
Drag Wheels and Tires
Trans w/ 3600-4000 Stall
Full Suspension
Rear End
That should put you in the low to mid 12's. I would never go just cam only but, that's me. I would get a heads and cam that match each other and do it at the same time, it just costs less in the long run. If that bottom end is in good shape it will carry you way in to the 11's before you even need a power adder. Good luck and welcome to the forumn.

lloyd elliot or advanced induction heads to match your cam, dyno tune, lower control arms, sub-frame connectors, adjustable torque arm, air bag for passenger side rear spring, et street radials.
then save whats left for another rearend

LT4 intake, LT4 heads, LT4 corvette cam. Thats 3 grand right there. stock converter restalled to 2500rpm. rebuilt 10bolt with 3.73's, new bushings in your stock suspension. About 4k total.
=Fast CAR!!!
then the last $1,000 to buy a gun and shoot yourself when you realize you have a turd of a car.

You don't need to spend $1,000 on a gun to shoot yourself .

Excluding the cost of my entire bottom end i had to buy new here are my costs
Heads-Ported Stock with Patriot Golds $600
Cam-Custom grind $330
Intake (Optional)- Ported stock and 58mm TB $580
Longtubes/ORY- LPP $600
Stall/Shift Kit- SS 3600/Trans Go $900
Readend- 3.73s/MAC Girdle $500
So thats 3300 right there for the major stuff, you can go cheaper on the intake and get a used 52 for a decent price. Add on about another grand for misc parts (Rockers, injectors, gaskets, tune, trans cooler) and you still have some room left.
