Just picked this engine up off the net. Can anyone tell just buy looking at it if its a L33 just want tp be sure. The vin matched up with a 05 4x4 silverado.

On a side note would a ls6 inake manifold and cam be a good upgrade on this engine. Motor is going in a bmw.

The L33 is the only aluminum block 5.3L that exsited, that I know of, in 2005. IF you have the vin number look for vin "B"

heads will be 243/799's. If you're still not sure, pull off the water pump, there should be a 5.3 casting in the bottom of the driver side coolant hole.

I can't really tell 100% from the pics, but I would tend to think that was an iron block. if that's the case, it's an LM7.
Just as previously stated, an easy way to tell would be to look at the casting numbers on the heads.

I hope its a L33. The 8th letter in the vin# is B, it came out of a 05 extended cab 4x4. I just talked to the place I bought the engine from and there going to try an get better pics and pics of head castings.

yeah its dirty so it looks iron, but if you look at the boltholes (that arent a cover) you can see its aluminum, so if its not iron and it came from a silverado youre good to go main; as stated, those are the only aluminum truck blocks

2005 4X4 were one of the few (only?) trucks that got this engine. Looks like an aluminum block to me. Iron ones were painted black.
