Question Best timing chain for my build??

This has been beat to death (I know because I did the search), but I need the correct timing chain for my application. I road race my 2000 SS and I am look to do a Head (243 ported) and Cam upgrade. I plan to spin the motor to 6500-6800rpm. ARP rod bolts and Comp 921 springs are in the plans as well.

I have narrowed my choice down to the Katech C5R, Cloyes Billet Adjustable or a LS2 upgrade. I hear the LS2 has slack. Will that be an issue at high rpm if I keep my stock harmonic balancer?

ARP has standard rod bolts (6006) and a 2000 Pro Series (6301). Which should I use?

Any thoughts?

The Cloyes Hex-adjust uses the same chain as the LS2 (Cloyes provides the OEM). They did make the IRL chain, which is the best single chain made for the LS1. Skoggin-Dickey recently (within the last year) bought the entire inventory from Cloyes so if you want the IRL chain they may have some sets left (Link to SD IRL Chain. This chain is better then the C5R, however the C5R is an excellent chain. I would go with either stock or ATI on the harmonic damper. You should look for a timing chain damper as well, but they are hard to find since they are no longer made.

I've been told now that the LS1 does not have provision for a timing chain Damper, not sure if one can be retro fitted some how though

Some blocks did, some didn't. The GMPP damper, when it was available, had a template to drill and tap the block for installation.

Your selection of harmonic damper and how you drive the car will have the biggest effect on timing chain life. If you road race, then extra precautions should be taken.

Would the LS2 HD Chain and a LS2 Chain Tensioner (GM 12588670) be enough or should I just fork over the cash for the Katech C5R chain with my LS2 Chain Tensioner? (LS2 Chain Tensioner already installed.)

invest in a ATI super damper to protect your timing chain.

As some extra info to this subject. I ran a brand new LS2 set for about 4k with a TR224 and beehives and it does have plenty of slack. When I pulled it, it surprised me. I know chains stretch, and after they stretch, they don't stretch anymore. This seems to be the nature of the beast.
