Default What's with the tint on 3/4 of the LS1 trans am tail lights?

I noticed a long time ago that a lot of the time when I see pics of LS1's, that the driver side tail light always looks like it was tinted halfway.

Noticed it again about a year ago when I was looking at buying a certain one, when I asked the guy just said that he guesses the previous owner did it.

Is it just the way it looks in pictures or something? Did they come like that from the factory?

I've always seen it only on the drivers side, never the passenger side.

Here's a photo of another members car that made me actually come to ask this question:

I'd like to know this as well, except it's my PASSENGER side light that is tinted half way. It makes the lights look weird at night. I am honestly thinking about doing that VHT Niteshade on them to even it up!

Its caused by moisture leaking into the light which damages the chrome reflector inside. Time to buy a new taillight. I sealed mine with np1 around the factory seam.

Look in the reverse light, and you'll notice all the black junk accumulating. Like said above, it's caused by moisture getting into the lights. I replaced one of my because of it. You may be able to open the light and respray the reflective stuff, but I just didn't bother.

I bought my '01 new and it is not like that from the factory. Average Joe seems to have come up with the culprit.

Ah, I have noticed moisture in the reverse light on the dim side! Nice call!
