Hello, im debating weather or not to put a lq9 in my 68 firebird, i have looked up some salvage motors and i can get one with 58,000 miles for about $1,400. I would like to know everything i would need to make this conversion and about how much it costs, i mean every little detail. Also what tranny hooks up to this engine? thanks!

I'm fairly new here but I really doubt anyone is going to sit down and spoon-feed you the answers like that. Spend time reading and then ask specific questions and you will get a lot more info.

$1,400 is way too much money for a pullout motor LQ4 or LQ9.

1400 seems resonable for a complete pull out..with harness etc.... but if you search hard enough you could find one for cheaper..i get 5.3's and 4.8's for 250 bucks

$1400 for an LQ9, with accessories, wiring harness, computer, pedal, TAC, etc. is a reasonable price.
I did an LQ9 in my 68 vette, 6 speed Richmond trans, Vintage AC. Look up my build thread, lots should apply to yours.

That price is fine. People talk about getting them for $600 but never say where, what condition they are in or how many miles are on them. You can't compare 175k miles on a harnessless burnt motor to something worth buying.
5.3s are common as dirt and super cheap.

i like to keep that a secret....lol... but i live in central fl.... he hasnt had any trucks there in a while,,he's lot used to be filled with 99' newer trucks ..now all gone!!..its deppressing..use to make a lil cash of he's lot.super cheap stuff..

68 RS Convertible

I got my LQ4 for $500 complete, but I ripped it apart and rebuilt it with all new stuff. Like it was sugessed above search! I did the swap in my 68 convertible and I got all my info off this site, its amazing the info thats available. I used the Hooker swap plates with Hooker headers and didnt have to modify the f body pan, all my steering cleared. I swapped my small block heater core to a big block heater core because I was worried about the coils/valve cover interfering with the heater hoses. I also took a 98-02 f body power booster/master cylinder and swapped out my stuff for more room. Electric fuel pump, I did an ac delco pump in line style fuel pump that mounts to my rear frame rail, and put the pressure regulator where the A/C mounted. Electric fan, which was a pain trying to adapt the sending unit, again search, or I can explain what I did later.
What tranny are u planning on using? turbo 350/400's will bolt up. I'm running a Tremec 5 speed. I used all my gen ! stuff with the exception of the flywheel. I had to make a plate to attach z bar to the block. There is a bunch more stuff but my wife is looking at me funny now!!! Let me know if you have an questions, more than happy to help. Ask anyone on here, once you go LS you will never look back. I will never go back to the Gen 1 stuff!

The engine im looking at is 1400 for just the motor no wiring harness. i have looked many places and called many salvage yards and they all seem to be the same price. thanks for the info guys ill look for a thread just like this.
