Default California: 02 Intake and headers on 00 car?

I read so many contradictory things about california smog, maybe someone here can help me out.

Consensus seems to be you can use a '02 LS1 engine in a '00 Camaro and be CARB legal, as long as you use the 02 smog equipment (no EGR). What would happen if I used a 02 (LS6) intake and 02 stock or shorty headers on my stock '00 engine with the 02 smog equipment (no EGR)? Some say that you can combine 'newer' smog equipment with an older engine, others say you can't.

Anyone have advice on this?

Bonus question: Would the '00 computer work with the '02 parts or would I need a '02 computer?

Thanks

Chris

I know its supposed to be ok to update with newer but its not supposed to be legal to down grade such as going with a carb.

If it can still pass your tests on smog id think youd be ok with that. The 98-00 cars have a slightly larger cam so that might be why they had that stuff to begin with? Slp sells the ls6 with the egr and all, might be a last option if you have to.

Might be best to go ask a place that tests the cars?

I would think you can do that without having to update the computer, at worst you might have to find a tuner to tune it and gain a few hp and maybe some mpg. I dont know if it would set codes from it, I have an 01 so never looked into it.

As long as everything looks stock (which it would with ls6 intake and 02 mani's) or your shortys had their carb # on them you wont get hassled if it passes the sniffer. Most places just look for thigns that dont look stock they dont actually know what they are looking for.

If you going to upgrade to "stock" parts then youll be fine

Great, thanks!

Any recommendations for a camshaft to go with it?

I read a lot and got the impression most recommend the TR224/114 for california smog.

If someone is super **** about the visual, they can make it an issue. Just go to a tweaker smog shop.

You'll be flagged for the missing EGR. If you pass the sniffer, and argue that it's a stock part from a later year, then you may get sent to a referee for resolution. I would try to set the EGR up on the new intake so that it appeared operational. Cut the fitting off the LS1 intake and glue it to the LS6.

A 224/224 114lsa, has an Overlap of -4.00 Degrees.
You want at least -4.00 Degrees , or more (- degrees).

With stock exhaust manifolds or CARB shorty headers your going to need at least 4 degrees or more exhaust, than intake duration.

Something like these: 218/230 114 or 115lsa, 220/228 114 or 115lsa, 222/226 114 or 115lsa, 222/228 115lsa,or a 222/230 115lsa.

Here's a helpful Overlap calculator I came across.

In all honesty, it would be a lot less of a hastle to just swap to an SLP LS6 intake with the EGR then try to change the header and the intake and then still have to worry about someone making a big deal over it.

it really matters on the smog guy you go to. i have a 99 trans am, LS6 intake and QTP race style longtubes. i borrowed my brothers catted y pipe and it passed with flying colors by turning down my timing -2* from stock and running the fuel @ a -3 slope (using a handheld tuner). i passed cause the guy just did the sniffer part. i passed that and he wasn't to mad about the Missing EGR. no flag either. but on my jeep, i was missing one little Air hose that goes from the manifold to the airbox and he marked it a TAMPERED. i had to get a smog every year for 3 years strait! so just be careful who you go to

Is there a reasonably affordable place to buy the SLP LS6 manifold from? All I have seen were way north of $600.

WS6 Store....or you can just drill a hole in the one you already have, and just screw the EGR into the top of it...done and done
