Default New ride..for the water

Got a '84 Youngblood TX-19 the other day. Too bad I'm still stuck in Kuwait until November. The motor is 475" 13:1 BBC with brodix 2 plus heads, brodix intake and a proform racing 950 carb, richard omalley n2o system right now has 300 shot jets in it. double crossbar plate system, lunati crank and cam 718 lift intake 720 exhaust, msd ignition all the way with msd 6al box and msd retard box. Got a dyno sheet from a few years back showed it made like 670 horses on motor and close to 950 with the 300 shot of nitrous which the plate is rated for up to a 350 shot.

Remember that jet boats only turn under power. Dan Pastorini crashed a Top Fuel jet back int he early 80's because the engine died.

Thanks guys. It's one of the fastest boats at our lake that isn't running the 555's and 632" motors that the fast boys run. Alot of them are making over 1000 on motor and have up to 3 stages of nitrous. Our races are 1000', this one usually runs a little over 100 I believe. The other guys are running in the 120s and 130s. It's one of the sharpest looking ones I've came across and have wanted it for years.

Yea, alot of the faster guys these days are running either a Jetaway (basically a one-way ratcheting gearbox) between the engine and jet pump that allows the impellar to free spin if the engine dies or they use a pop-off valve on the pump outside of the boat that mounts infront of the impellar in the cleanout hole set at a certain psi. If the engine dies and the water pressure spikes past the limit it'll pop the valve and blow the water out of the exit instead of allowing all of the water to hit the non-moving impellar and blow the back of the boat out of the water or make it hook one way or the other. Plus the pop-off valve can be manually controlled to make the boat slow down alot faster after a run.

I want to do a LSx motor in it one day. Been thinking a lightweight aluminum 408 with a F1 Procharger with a water/air intercooler making stupid power and weighing alot less than the BBC would be nasty. One of my buddies is doing a big single turbo 5.3 in his 18' jet. Plenty of cool lake water going through the intercooler would allow us to get away with running a little more boost.

We were running a "whirlaway" (I think that's what they are called) on our flatbottom until we went with an Owens tranny. I have been around drag boat racing since I was 2, and I will be 46 on the last day of the month.
wish I could afford to boat race, but car racing is way cheaper.

Yea a whirlaway is basically the same thing for a flatbottom. I'm hoping I'll be able to get a little cruising time in with this one, and still be able to hold my own in a race. I need to find a stock 454 to toss in it for cruising around on the weekends that nothing is going on.
