Default Converter and tranny help

I need help! The car is 2000 WS6 with a rebuilt 4l60e with I believe a vigilante 3600 stall and Strange 12-bolt/w 3.42. Upon lockup around 35-50 mph there is some knocking if I'm not on the throttle. The knocking stops if I apply throttle or the brakes. Does this sound normal? That's issue one.

Issue 2 is the car feels terrible above 55-60mph. The car vibrates, rattles and a bunch of other terrible noises. The wheels were balanced so around town feels fine but this weekend went on a trip and it felt terrible. Any sugtestions would help.

Thanks
Z

Broken flywheel? Does the vehicle vibrate sitting still raising the rpm or is it road speed only? does it still vibrate @ 55 in "N" or "D"?

It sounds like it coming from under the shifer it's gotta b the converter or trans. I believe it's a poly mount.

When Idleing it's fine no vibration, haven't tried outing it in neutral at 55mph. What doesn't make sense is when the car was on the dyno (mustang dyno) it went up to 132mph fine. The tuner said the car felt solid.

with the poly mount your going to feel nearly every vibration. I do in my car, sometimes on the highway its unbearable especially in 3rd gear.

The knocking is this something that just started happening? Does the knocking feel like its contributing to the vibrations or is it just a noise at this point?

I'd say it's a cracked flexplate, kinda sounds like a clikity clack sound at idle and goes away with speed. Lots of post around about Fbody trans removal, do yourself a favor and spend a little more money on a SFI cert. replacement.

I know what u mean about the poly mount feelin alot of vibration. This really isn't that it's more of a shacking vibration. It's weird bc it'll come and go it'll smooth out and then feel like the drivetrain is locking up.

I never changed the motor mounts could they b the bad? It seems like my car never liked highway speeds. Car pulls good all the way to 110 but then slowing down never feels smooth.

This weekend it started to idle sorta rough when the cutout was closed I filled up wit gas opened the cutout (it was tuned for an open cutout) and the idle issue was fine.

Tomorrow I'll brim the car in to have my mechanic check it out. I've had the car since 04 and it's never liked the top end. I hear about other A4s not having these issues. Hopefully I can figure it out. Thanks for the suggestions guys keep them coming.

Knocking sound usually happens when it's locking up but lately feels like it knocking around 65-70 when it should b already locked up.

U still never said if u have poly motor mounts..? It could b 1 a bad flexplate, 2 bad motor mounts or 3 trans/converter issue or 4 a trans tuning issue..sorry to throw in so many variables..

Z28241-the motor mounts r the original factorys never changed them. I'll look into ur other suggestions. I don't think it's the trams tuning. How is ur car on the highway u got a big gear and big stall? At 70 my car is right at 2K rpm. As soon I'm outta the throttle the car feels like it pullin down

My car on the hwy is fine, i have all poly mounts, motor and tranny..no complaints..thruway, back roads,no matter..
I BELIEVE that ive heard of torque arm bolts loosening up on some of these 12 bolts rears..doesnt hurt to recheck the torque on those bolts as well..along w/other suspension stuff..just a piece of mine and it doesnt cost nothing..my .02..

i'll check all the bolts. I feel some movement or shifting when I brake or takeoff but only feel it every once in a while. Had the car checked out they think it might just be a unbalanced wheel getting them balanced tmrw i'll keep u updated.
