The RK Sport Tonneau covers always sparked my imagination and after watching documentary on the Carrera GT inspired my creative flow.
I was wondering what you guys think of this. This is purely cosmetic and will definitely add weight to the car. :drive:
Input - criticism - thoughts are welcome. even if you wana call it :rice
To give you a rough idea of what it 'd be is I want to combine the tonneau covers with ...lets say a light bar for when the top is down.

It 'd look similar to a carrera GT

I like the look of the tonneau you created, but light bars are ugly and stupid, IMO. Leave that out.

Its kind of a mute point unless you can find a lite bar, they have been discontinued sometime back. I found a used one by accident and in a year I have only ever found 1 more used on Ebay and the guy won't sell it unless you can send him pristine interior quarter panel trims. But I am all for it, the only reason I have not got the tonneau covers is cost: apx $500 for the unpainted panels NOT including any shipping charges, PLUS the cost of having them painted, PLUS the cost of the lite bar if you can find one, this could easily reach $1500-2000 just to see how it looks.

Bro I am all for custom body work, even if I like it or not. I am into the art and craftsmanship of the work. As long as you dig it who cares what others think.

You want something radical, lol... I was wanting to do suicide lambos on my Vert, but I don't think my boy is up to it anymore.

Here are some pics to give you an idea of what I am talking about. If you want me to delete them let me know ;)

Oh and BTW...

There was a tonneau cover made for 99-03 Mustang verts, it was part of the Black Widow collection. It is on the lines of what you want with the hoop look.

Good luck with it Bro!

Kinda like that yes, but instead of a light bar being seperate. I'm trying to get a local stereo shop to use a high spoiler off an integra to be more integrated and sit lower closer to the covers(in height).

I like it but one of the things you have to consider is where will you store it when it is not on the car. Mine is hung on a wall in the garage but we just moved to a condo so that will no longer be an option.

I have been thinking about this issue... I was thinking about incorporating the factory cover with the RKS cover. Basically the RKS cover will be combined with the factory cover; the RKS cover (or at least most of it) will be Semi-Perm installed, but the rear part of it, where the factory cover will be made part of it, will function like it should, does that paint a clear pic, lol... I already have the RKS cover, but need a cheap factory cover.

Something like this... Please forgive the shitty PS, lol..

I think those are the covers from a black widow kit, it should be a good start for your idea.

I have mine hung in the garage too. Haven't used it in a couple years. it keeps me from moving my seat all the way back.

I have a lite bar and tonneau's, but don't use together. I picked up 4 pieces of 90 degree tubing at home depot sleeved 2 together (made 2 hoops) you need to tack a bolt and washer at the bottom of each. Then you drill 4 bolt size holes in tonneau. You can remove hoops quickly for different look. Install rubber grommets if you are OCD. If going painted route use larger diameter tube. If using roll bar padding use smaller tubing. total cost under $20. Guessing the height is the hardest part of the job

No real progress has been made. I bought tonneau covers from someone on ebay but they showed up both cracked! The guy says they were fine and I broke em. Its been in dispute via ebay for last month and no real results.

I found a wing at local yard for $70, its sitting at my apartment for almost 3 weeks now.

This wing usually is on imports like this Acura.

The plan is to cut this spoiler in half in the middle and create legs for the center and to use fiberglass to mold it to each of tonneau cover.

I attached a jpeg file of my design.

if you put too many things together it just looks gaudy. A few well thought out items just looks better!

like it was said before. if YOU like the way it looks and YOU'RE the one driving it and YOU'RE the one paying for it, who cares what someone else thinks.
Props though for the idea. Ive been wanting to do something different as well. I have the light bar on my 95 t/a rag top. Yes someone always has something to say but i like the way it looks and love the tonneau look too. Problem is I have hard time spending that kinda good money on something new just for me to cut it up to customize it. Keep us posted let us know how your project comes along

If any one has tonneaus they wanna dump PM me. I do prefer damaged ones. Thanks

The covers you are looking for are available @ Afterthought Auto. Light bars are still available through Deft Racing. I am ordering a light bar this week. I dont think these types of aftermarket parts will be on the market forever. I have the stock top covers painted body matching, and think the light bar will look really good on the Vert. But then everyone has their own opinions on accessories.
