I think you may want a bit more cam and a bit more compression. My motor started out as an LQ4. I had it bored .030 and put in Mahle flat top's. I took .025 off my L92's. TSP 233/239 cam. I'm also carbed with a 6LS2 ignition. Very impressed with the preformance. Just my .02 about the cam and compression. Good Luck!

yeah i hear the LSA on the stock fuel injected cams isnt good. you can get away with a lot more cam on a tighter LSA. I have a carbed ls1 and im very impressed with the power. what ever you do run a custom timing curve. those pre set pills that the ignition box comes with are junk.

I thought having a modern engine with the proven preformance of a carb would be cool. I was really affraid of having to run the ECM and all of the unknowns (at least unknowns for me), of the computer. Little did i know that my laptop is my best friend for tuning with the MSD ingnition. Plus it really throw's people for a loop. They take a look under the hood and have no clue what it is!

I went carb in part because it was the cheapest way to finish off a new crate motor in a non-FI vehicle. That won't be true if you already have all the FI parts. The carb'd crate motor also made 35 HP more than the same motor with FI.

But the main reason for going carb is I have always wanted a hipo carb motor and this was my chance.

I wouldn't scrap the FI just because the motor isn't running right. Worst case just take it to a local mechanic and have another set of eyes look at it. Chances are it is something basic and will work fine after getting past that hurdle.

A carb does have some drawbacks compared to FI. Nothing as bad as some guys make out. But they can be a bother at times.

i had a new carb from a previously built engine, plus the cost factor. like 68 RS Convertible said, its pretty cool to see your timing curve and rpm on the computer screen. i also use an external FAST wide band tuner to fine tune my carb.

from my understanding the victor style carb intakes offer more power over the FI because of the longer runners.

i gotta give a shotout to DCx, 68 RS, & Pop n Wood. you guys gave great advice. thanks. i played with my 5.3/4L60e set up and it seems to be working properly(pop n wood). guess you can say that i saved about $1900. shor'dee will stay FI for now. i will get a second pair eyes the check everything out plus, work on my shift points. i dont think i need a full dyno tune. everything is stock. and again, thanks LS1tech fam.

Default lq4/th400 carbed

hello ls1tech family. im back with a new new twist. i have a lq4/th400 that im trying to make road worthy. my carbed lq4 set up is ready to be pulled for the FI setup. yes I said it. i want to remove my carb and go FI. using a carbed on a lq4 is not making sense to me, plus its a headache. how do i start my tuning? the cam in my lq4 is-228/228 dur. @.050:
112 LSA: .558/.588 Lift. as of now im using pill #5 with my msd 6010. the msd soft ware is on my laptop. where do i go from here. the guys at msd tech are not customer friendly. the spokesman stated to me that, "trying to tune your car is dangerous. why would u do that? tuners have plenty of experience. you should seek a professional". i wanted to tell this chump, if he's dumb enough to do it, then so am i. I just need some direction ls1tech. lead the way ls1tech fam & i will follow. Thanks in advace. Clark.
