Default speed pro's vs Mahle

Im building a 355 and im looking for around 11.5-11.8 comp ported stock heads with a cc503 or a custom grind and have a hidden nos direct port under the manifold and plan to do around 200 shot it will have 5.7 h beam eagle so any opinions are welcome on piston choice

I have the Mahle forged in my new 355, I went with the 6 inch though. I set the rings up for a 200 shot. I dont know much about the speed pro's but im aware there is several people on here that use them. And i guess since your spraying you are getting the forged pistons ?

Can't go wrong with Mahle, especially if GM used them on every LT1 ever made.

I have had speed pro pistons in quite a few motors, N/A also the are pretty strong! However, none are strong enough to survive a lot of detonation. Ring lands break etc....its all in the tune!
Mahle pistons are lighter than the Speed Pro LW series....I would say if money is tight a set of 2256s are in order but you are lookin into BOOST so the piston i would suggest would be the L2441F dished piston which would be fine with stock Lt1 heads(compression wise)

Nothing wrong with the quality of MAHLE pistons at all!

Call Llyod for the cam, you could get something that would make 10hp more than that 503 and have the same street manners/ shift point/ etc.

I just got a custom one i picked out. 226/234 565.565 111 lsa

I dont have much work in my heads and intake but I plan to shift at 6350 with it.

Hey:

96lt1m6: Speed Pro bought TRW many years ago
Yes I know that, but many new sets of 23* TRW Power Forged pistons are still out there and can be had for a very reasonable price when found for a 030 over, 5.7 rod and 3.48 stroke, @ 11.0-12.5 compression. they are on ebay and lots of circle track parts flyers all the time.

Ive seen the last version NIB before the Speed Pro buy out, in the config the OP needs sell for $200 USD for a set of 8 PF pistons with ceramic coating applied to the dome, with super forged pins, spiral clips, and flycut before coated, 11.5 comp, a few weeks ago. So they are still out there. I wanted to buy them for a good stock type rebuild, but somebody beat me to it. Heck the ceramic coating cost that. They may be a few years old but are good pistons if found new like that.

I run the CP Bullet pistons from Carrillo. They are very similiar in price compared to mahles. They're made out of a different material that handles nitrous better.

Talk to Corey at Clayton Racing. He'll set you up.

speedpro has been having huge quality control issues. Check out the new CP bullet series pistons, or if they are a little too expensive do the Mahle's and dont look back.

If you have the money then go with the Mahle's. With that said, I ran the Speedpro out of my past 94 Z28 w/ zero issues.
