Help with stock wheels.
The stock wheels chrome wheels on my 98z are about done for - the chrome is peeling off and causing all the associated issues.
I have been doing some research and I know the problem is common with the solution being to re chrome them or to just get new wheels. The problem is that I am too poor atm to do either and I have a ton more school ahead of me before I can realistically come up with a grand for new wheels and tires.
Can I just get the chrome taken off of the wheels and paint them?
If I can what is the best way to get them de-chromed?
From what I have read that I could just take a wire brush to the sealing surfaces of the wheels and clean them up but the article I read said that you can still have sealing issues doing that and need to seal the tires with some sort of sealant. Is this true or just overly conservative?
TL-DR - Stock wheels suck, can I get the chrome ripped off and paint them?
