Is it possible to run 87 Octane with L92 Heads on a LQ4 6.0L and a Cam to make 400 - 425 HP? Or do I need to run higher octane? Wanted to build a low compression motor. I was told it wasn't a good idea to run a cam and lower octane as well, but will it work and meet my power goals?

as long as your DCR is low you can.... the L92 + LQ4 with dish pistons should have you around 9.6.1 comp..... Your DCR would depend on the cam timing events as well but I don't see why not.... If you go to a bigger cam combined with a wider LSA, your only going to bleed off even more DCR
So I say you should be fine.... Just calculate your DCR.......

why would you run 87 over 93 when its only 20 cents difference for the extra insurance.. what would you spend an extra 5$ or so to fill the car up big deal

35 cents here. I just like the idea of a V8 with big power numbers that can run on low octane, and plus I might plan on Procharging it later.

I currently am running a carbed 6.0 with L92 heads and a comp cam. It is 9.4:1 compression. I also run 87 octane which is just fine for that compression ratio. It really hauls the mail.
