View Full Version : Me vs. SRT-4

Theres a '04 SRT-4 owner on a local board that claimed he hung within 1/2 a car of an LS1 from a roll. The car is stock but put down 236whp and ran a 13.8 at 101. I offered him a run with my LT1, which is about as fast as a stock LS1 from a roll. My car is just a stock 140k mile LT1 with shorty headers, O/R y-pipe, borla exhaust, MTI CAI, 1LE elbow, a TB airfoil, and some slight computer work.

First run we went from 50 roll. I had it in 2nd at about 4800rpm. We went on my move, I jumped out and hit my rev limiter, but shifted and kept going. We went to around 120 and he looked to be about 2-3 cars back. He later told me he was out of his rpm range and had difficulty shifting on that run.

Second time we went from a 30. I put it in 2nd not wanting to hit the rev limiter again which is about 3000-3500rpm, which isnt that great of place to start. I waited for his jump, he got about a fender, I started to pull and ended about a 1 1/2 to 2 cars ahead. Afterwards he claimed I was only 1/2 to 1 car ahead, yet I could see both his headlights in my rear view mirror. Im guessing he meant from my bumper.

The final run we went from a stop. I half throttled it out of the hole trying to get traction, I jumped out a car, he caught traction and gained 1/2 a car back. Around that point I started to catch traction and floored and started to pull away. We only went up to 80-90 because of a turn but I ended but 1-2 cars ahead.

The guy turned out to be really cool. We talked for a while and he also owns an 89 Iroc. I have to admit the car was pretty quick. I would guess so with around 260hp in a 2900-3000lb car from the factory.

Interesting car.

I wonder what ford is goign to do to the Focus to compete?
I wonder if GM is even going to bother to compete?

I said stock LT1 to make clear the car has no internal work, not even rocker arms. :)

the new cobalt (cavalier replacement) comes in SS trim with a supercharged 4 banger putting out I believe somewhere around 220 horse. Not that I give a shit, I just watch a lot of "Power Block" on Spike TV.

Good kill. The Cobalt SS is being marketed as a STR4/Focus SVT killer (or at least competition for themm seeing as it has a mere 220 HP). I am sure GM will end up with a faster version of the car if it sells well. That is what Dodge did and all of them do.

I saw the Cobalt SS at the auto show. It's American rice complete with the big wing. The blower looks like an Eaton which means it's very inefficient. Another POS from GM IMO.

twin screw > roots.

Good kill on the SRT-4.
I go and troll the SRTforums, and they're always talking smack about LS1's, as to how they can "keep up" with us. I just laugh and remind them that if I listed my car on their national 1/4 mile registry, I'd be #1 on the list. -That shuts them up pretty quick.

I do have an eaton and it's very inefficient. The same mods will make 100rwhp more with a kenne belle blower by running 5psi less than what I run with the eaton.

That's not the version I saw at the auto show. They had the riced out model there with the fart pipe and the big wing, recaro seats (nice), 5pt harness, etc.

well ford has the cosworth focus, which they are in the moment of trying to work a deal out to bring one here in america. in the 200 something turbo range. trust me, these words will not spill out to magazines for a little bit. this is just big talk going down in dearborne right now. I gots the hook up for shit on fords. i know crap about concepts a good year before a magazine hits a line. trust me the new motor they are working on for the past 1.5 to 2 years for the f-150 is going to be bad ass.

i really dont understand the need for wings on FWD cars... I mean, they are FWD!!! down force will only make the car slower, because an increase of drag. I guess if you are going extremely fast, there might be a need for downforce, but isnt that speed greater than the top speed of most of these sport compact cars?

A POS with a better interior than your $35K car. :) Or mine :(

Have you been in my car? Didn't think so. :twak:
You're impressed by the "nice" interior huh? How about the "nice" wing and "nice" fart pipe? You like the 5pt harness in a 14 second car too? :rice:

Yes Ive seen the interior of the '03 cobra, its pretty much the same as any other mustang aside from the seats. Its not bad, but yes I think the cobalt ss has a better interior. :) But I didnt say it was a better car than yours.

I dont see the 5-point harness?

or the ricey wing or fart pipe

I think the General is about to take a more upscale approach to interiors, because they keep getting ragged on!!!

Look at the pictures I posted above. BTW, I'm not concerned with appearance. I leave that to the Civic guys. Just another 10 second daily driver is fine by me.

Nice kill on the srt4. I personally think the cobalt looks alright. I'm not much on the new cougar style tailights. I also think the name is crap like milla said and the one that Unit saw needs to get rid of the rice equipment. Other than all that I would drive one.

It's the standard Ricer mentality. what I've found around here is that if they even keep you in SIGHT, they consider it "keeping up." :eyes: I see this especially on the back roads. I leave them way behind on the twisties yet when they catch up to me at a stop sign they are smirking and acting all cocky like they just kicked my a$$ or something. I just don't get it.
