My Build!!! The forged 347 that does'nt know what it wants! Well I figured it's time, after owning the car for two and a half years and doing all of the work on it myself, I figured its time for a new challenge. With a 120,000+ on the odometer and a month before I leave for afghan now seemed like the best time for a build! No way its getting done by then lol... Im not sure which route Im gonna go with this build (nitrous/forced) but it should be interesting. I was previously running 75shot and my systems still in the car(I would love to hear you guys/girls opinions). I would'nt really call this a budget build, but I have one kid and another due next month so the parts listed below arnt changing.
Parts recieved so far (plz give suggestions for the parts to come)
347 build that I hoped for. (SCRATCHED)
-Diamond forged street/strip 3.905 SOLD
-Eagle H-beam rods upgrading to ARP 2000
-TSP MS3 cam
-FAST 92mm manifold SOLD
-95mm TB SOLD
-LS2 HD timing set
-LSA/LS9 timing chain
-Complete UMI k-member
-HSW 75hp wet shot through single fogger
-complete wire/fuse box tuck in the engine bay
-smooth/fill/paint engine bay
-MAC mid tube headers
-battery re-locate
Time permiting 346
-Hot tanked and honed stock LS1 block
-Durabond Cam bearings
-TSP MS3 cam
-Stock replacement rings
-Original pistons and rods
-Clevite 77 rod and main bearings
-FelPro full engine gasket set
-LS7 Clutch
-Hot tanked/Polished stock crank
-uncomplete engine bay, lol
Anyways lets get to the build! It's been hell doing it by myself as a newbie with minimal tools and a super small garage but the motors finally out.
Before I started
was always confused on how to get the damn fuel lines off.
after a little reading.
I figured it out.

BOOM!!! not good!
finally out from under the car. now to seperate the tranny.
and there she is! now I gotta figure out how to get the clutch off???

Nice project. I built mine in my garage and am very glad I did it myself. My specs are attached. I don't regret any of my decisions. Good luck. And thanks for your service. Be safe.

the ONLY reason i know that, is because part of my class included cutting oil filters open, and the FRAM filter had the least amount of filter media, and the largest holes in the media.
before i started school, i always bought the cheapest filters, thinking they were all the same, (i know, should be common sense, but i was 16 and didnt really know any better) then got to college and started taking all my automotive classes.
check on the internet, there are tools that you use to cut open filters, basically looks like an industrial strength can opener.
i bought one, and make a habit every year cut atleast one filter open on all my cars and check what the filter is catching. once the media cartridge is out of the metal housing, take a razor blade and cut the filter away from the rivited metal peice holding it together, and it unfolds like an accordian. its close to 4-5 ft long. there you will be able to see everything. its intresting, very simple and a great way to see what your engine is doing.
if your curious as the difference in filters, buy a fram and a Wix/Napa Gold and cut them both open and compare.

After a long drawn out battle with the mosquitos that are taking over my garage, I finally got the clutch and flywheel off.
There's more than 120,000 on these babies, and boy do they stink.

Finally got her on the engine stand.
But not without a fight.
This is a day to day for me when I'm working on the Helicopters, but man it sucks happening to the car. Good thing it only the oil pan.

Nice build but question... why not just upgrade to LS2? You can get a finished bore block for $1,000. Just stroke to 402, swap all your LS1 parts and drop right back in with 55 more cubes and way more room to grow. By the time all the machine work gets done to the LS1 block you could very well be close to or at the price of the LS2 block.
Not to mention that ported L92 heads are the same price as a portjob on the 241s or 243s and will make WAY more power.
Not knocking you or anything, just putting some other options out there.
