Default Is my 2001 6.0 an lq4 or lq9 ?-from a pickup

I have a 2001 6.0 iron block from a pickup complete takeout,I did a search and it seems the only way to tell is to look into the cylinder to see what type piston it is .Is there any other way to tell ? I will be installing this into my 66 biscayne .Also any input to add 100 hp would be helpfull .JOHN

you can also tell by the 8th diget of the vin. I cant remember which letter means which motor. the pistons is the easiest way to check.

How about running a compression check? The LQ9 should generate higher psi than an LQ4 based on the increased CR.

I was able to look through the spark plug hole on mine with a flash light and seen the dish in the piston to determine that it is a LQ4.

LQ4. LQ9 production didn't begin until 2002 model year.
