good gripping front tires, but for DD
what good gripping front tires do you guys recommend?
I want something that will corner well/good braking/cornering traction, but nothing too aggressive (like Nitto NT01s) since this will be my DD...
any good tires?
I was suggested Nitto 555Rs or Toyo Proxes 4... something of that nature (that has a good balance of some grip, but can still be used for regular driving). Not as aggressive as Nitto NT01s.
(Now, I know the 555rs are much more aggressive than the Toyos, But Im unsure of running 555rs on the front... do people do this?)
anyway, I also would like to mention that now I currently have Nitto 555Rs in the REAR and last but not least Im running Kumho Ecstas in teh fronts and I am hoping the tires you guys suggest will hold up better than the Kumhos. Hopefully the Toyo Proxes 4 (which si what I am leaning towards) is better @ handling than the Kumhos.
Thanks in advance.

I Have Nitto 555rs in the front, if these are the same your thinking about, size 275/40/17s on 9.5 inch ROH wheels, tread wear #s are 100,Z rated, so there not the drag radials, you maybe get 10K miles out of them, the good side , they stick like glue, bad, they follow every groove in the road because of there large treadblocks.

I had them up front. I didn't really test them out to their fullest potential but they felt good. They lasted about 10k of DD miles before the wires started to show. I have BFG's up front now and I like them

nitto nt555 (not to be confused with 555R drag radial or 555RII road race comp tire) is an "ultra performance" summer street tire. as mastertomos suggested, that is probably what you want.
there are stickier tires that will be better in the corners, but as you say you don't want anything like NT01 and are running drag radials in the rear...

The King.......Nitto NT 555 Extreme. 300 tread wear.
Wet traction is crazy good, and dry traction is kickass. I'm on my 4 set. I get 15,000+ miles out of these each time.

exactly, ive been running 4 sets of Nitto 555rs since 2006. But that post above threw me off...
I think the best match will be Nitto 555s for the front! BUT! supposedly my buddy can only get the 555Rs in 245 50 16 for teh front!
so I may have to go with the toyo.

Have you checked other suppliers?
Discount Tire Direct has pretty much anything Nitto makes available, gauruntees lowest price with price matching, and has free shipping. There is literally no way to beat them on price unless someone is selling them independently or yur buying used tires.
Check them out or give them a call, they're very knowledgable and helpful.

I have a few sets of rims that I run around on all the time. I prefer my set of NT-O1's, but I know its not practical all the time so I have another set wrapped in Toyo Proxies 4. I am actually pretty impressed with the Proxies. I recently took the car to Willow Springs Raceway for a track day and decided to use the Proxies, and needless to say I was quite impressed with the amount of grip they have.
I would not hesitate to buy Proxies 4's again

But thanks...
I think Im gonna go with the Proxes 4.
when I have more money in the future, I will go with the Nt555s in the front..

I haven't used Nitto's since around 2001. But I have used Michelin MXX3/Pilot Sport/PS2, Bridgestone S-02/S-03, Goodyear GS-D3, Kumho Ecsta MX/V710, Hoosier A06, Dunlop 290/645/R17 slicks & Dunlop Direzza Star Spec.
For street tires, I was most impressed overall with the original Pilot Sports & S-02's for combination of wet & dry performance. I think the GS-D3 offered the best wet performance overall and I think the Dunlop Star Spec's (what I'm using now) offered the best dry performance. The Kuhmo XS is supposedly better in the dry than the Star Spec but scarier in wet conditions. The Star Spec's widest width is a 265/40/17, but the XS goes to 335.
I would recommend the same model & size tire at every corner for predictable handling.

No.
I know what you are saying is correct, but I will not want to run Nitto 555rs in teh front for now..
for my road race days, I will run Nitto NT-01s all around.
