Default Opinion after tuning with HPP3

I just tuned my Hawk with the HPP3. Here is what I did as far as major changes.
Changed rev limiter to 6300
Changed shift points to +3,+5,+5.
Changed Shift Firmness to 100%
Changed for the fans to come on early.

Pretty much everything else is left to stock, except for a few mods I have listed in my sig.
Should I leave this tuned to what I have listed? I did a search on the things to change and came up with what I have. Should I keep what I have? And it shoudn't damage anything.
Thanks.
(Don't have an drastic changes to warrant a LS1 edit tune yet, the reason for HPP3.)

Looks god as long as you have a 160 stat, and your not hitting rev limiter in any gears... best to set your shifts at the track to see if your gaining or losing et...too much will hurt ya...I speak from experience cuz every car is diffrent...

do you set the shift points to MPH or RPM? i was under the impression theres both. or either or.

How do you set the optimal shift points? I do have a GTECH PRO so i could say datalog the g-forces on a private street launch and see where the RPM * G forces are, in theory , if you get max G on each shift is that good? or how do you recommend. i'm a newb at this stuff (mostly all 5 speed cars before) so Automatics are quite a new realm.

if you dont mind explaining or pointing to a thread for a newb i'd appreciate it.

What I did was a search on "shift points" in this tuning thread. There was a guy that had a 02 TA convertible and he put out what everyone was averaging on a stock LS1 engine. I really have no idea on how to calculate shift points. That is why I posted in here to see if there are any other knowledgable tuners here to see if I'm ok with setting my shift points and rev limiter with what I described above. This is what other people have done. I know that Hypertech said I could set the rev limiter to 6700, but read in other threads, that it could be dangerous setting it that high with just stock and little mods done.
I'm still learing as well.

well if you see my dyno (lid/catback) then the blue line is all the mods below, you can see why shifting 6600 might be pointless without a bumpstick/intake/etc.

I picked a mild cam and gained 1000rpm of usable (5500 peak before, 6500 now) and the dyno run to 7200 just flatlined past 6600 so it made sense to limit it to 6600 and shift at 6400.

You can datalog G-force with efilive 6.2 i found out, i might have to have the tuner tweak shift mph and record the g-forces as you could deduce optimal shift points based on that. but i have a verter that limits my shift extensions a little.

I thought bumping the shift firmness up to 100% was bad for the transmission.

I'd tone your shift firmness down from 100% to around 75%. Try to find the percentage where you won't bark the tires while the tranny switches gears. Barking the tires between shifts will hurt your ET's. You should see a big improvement if you tone the firmness down a little.

Mine is set at either 25% or 50% dont remember. I wouldnt drive too much or too hard at 100% for too long. Also i thought mostly stock cars peak at about 5400rpm's. So with that i would try and play around with gettin to shift at no more than 5800rpms with a rev limit of like 6200, which i belive is stock. I could be talkin out of my ***, so somebody correct me if im wrong.

In general, you would like to have your shifts ~600 rpm or so above your peak hp. A lot depends on the spread between gear ratios of course, but that's a good rough tuning point. The theory is that when the shift is complete, your rpm will be back to just under your peak hp and pulling hard. If you think of the dyno hp curve, you are "rocking" back and forth across your hp peak. So if you have a hp peak at say 5200, then shift at 5800 and you will drop to about 4800 when the shift is done. As I said many things affect this action, so the +600 is really a starting point. HTH

my sig has a stock A4 and cam/all-bolton before/after dyno in it. If you want an idea about shift points.
