So i am replacing my opti soon and I was wodering if you guys had a majority winner on what brand to get?? I replaced the stock one with a jeggs one about a year and a half ago but that one is dead now. I have heard that the "performance" ones for around $400-500 are not worth it. Should I just buy one from autozone since they have a lifetime warranty??

Pick up an OEM AC Delco optispark. Far and away they offer the best balance of reliability and performance.

Yep, I see the same recommendtion on all the Forums I visit.

What year's your car? I did some price shopping last week and may have found a price for the ACDELCO OPTI that beat all the others I found.

OEM guts with a MSD rotor and cap. Use some red locktite on the screws for added security.

Not a very cost-effective solution, considering you can't purchase the AC Delco optispark without the cap and rotor. Even then there is no performance gain using the MSD cap and rotor.

I bought a junked motor from the local yard, and it had an Accel opti on it.

I took it apart and it has GM part numbers on the disk and the opti pick-up, the only real deviation I see from the OEM is the bushings udes on the shafts.

I'm thinking of trying this sucker out if I ever get a chance...lol

i have an accel and it works great. stay away from a jegs or any no name brand that offers a lifetime warranty.

I have a 97 camaro. I would be interested in where you found those for cheap. Also, i have read about people buying opti sealant stuff, where do I find this? Or should I just use rtv sealant??

I didn't mean to imply "cheap" but instead "least expensive" or even "brst price". TPIS has the least expensive ACDELCO Opti for the 95-97 I found during my search. Check their site.

Delco for a street car, dynaspark for a track car. People are quick to deviate to a cheap opti or a MSD. But they forget that their opti that went out tens of thousands of miles after it was put on was a Delco

Yeah I was thinkin of using an AC Delco mainly because of the fact that the original one lasted so long. But I contacted Jeggs and they said they will replace mine for free. So being on a college kid budget, i might take that route and hope it lasts a little longer.

So do I need to seal up the opti at all? I have heard of people using rtv sealant. Is there an actual product out there for this??

No, it is not necessary. You can do it if you want though.
