Default about to buy new tires need help asap!!!

I have a 2002 ss camaro that has about 500 horse off the crank. It is now just a weekend driver. I am looking into buying new tires< i have the stock 275/40/17. so far im stuck between either the yokohama s drive tires or the toyo r1r's. Does anybody have either of these tires on there cars; if so could anybody give me any input on there experience with these tires. If not any suggestions would help! I babey the car most the time but when I dont I road race the hell outa her! So I need a tire that has excellent handling capabilities. I have done a lot of research but could definetly use more advice from yall !!!

I like the new Nitto NT05's. They are really sticky and they handle great.

I have the Toyo T1R's....285/40 in the rear. I love the heck out of em. The only thing that suck is the $$$ you'll spend for them. I ended up spending $300 per tire.

i think a 275 40 17 nitto nto5 will be your best bet or even the kumho xs.
both of them are priced good.

ok two votes on nitto nto5's. if i were to go with these what do i run on the front tires im assuming nitto has a different tread pattern for the front tires ? and thanks for all the replys please keep em comeing. im still kinda partial to the toyos r1r's but if i could get the t1r's to fit on the stock 02 ten spoke ss rims would love to do that however, im guessing they wouldnt fit.

they will "fit" but they will look kinda goofy cause the sidewalls are going to buldge a little bit.

ok i would love to have the toyo t1r's ! however they dont make them in a 275/40/17 the closest thing was a 265/40/17. im assuming that wouldnt look right on the rim. so i guess im going to go with the toyo r1r's! im going to do some research into the nittos that were suggested above. the toyos i had on my ss for the last few years never did me wrong in fact they exceeded my expectations! so i think toyo is what im going to stick with... please continue with any input every one who has responded has helped me greatly thank you!

If it helps, my stock SS wheels (when I bought the car) came with 275/35 17's. You should get away with the 40 series tire in the T1R's.

Alright well its a toss up between the Nitto nt05's and the toyo R1R's ! Nitto arent exactly known for there tread life but the toyo's tread life is about the same if not a little worse lol. man i realy wish toyo made that T1R in a 275/40/17! i would buy those tonight if they did. the closest they make in that series is the 265/40/17. damn it! any way thanks everybody....

did you consider Michelin PS2 tires?

they offer good grip and seem to last longer than the Nittos and Toyos

but if you were on a budget, get the Kumhos

B.F Goodrich G-force KD's, KDW 2's, or even the G-force Sport. The G-force Sport is on all the Skip Barber Driving school cars up at Road America. I just put a set on a 04 Mazdaspeed Miata ( I know, way diff. car) for a customer. The stock tires were Toyos, and he really loves the G-force Sports. Told me off the bat that he pounds the car daily, and wanted something decent in the rain as its a daily driver. Came back a few weeks later, said he loved em, they stick really well. He was used to the Toyo's lettin the car slide around. No, the Toyos were not completely worn out, just had one blow out from road debris and decided it was time for 4 new ones. I have been running Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's on my own 02 SS, AutoX it on some weekends, no complaints here! Might be a bit pricey for some people though. Put a set of Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sports on my friends SVT Focus. Wanted something for a summer tire, that wasnt directional so he could rotate properly to keep tire noise at a minimum. Ive been in car with him beaten on it, they stick REALLY well also.

I have the G-Force Sports in 245/50-ZR16, and they are very sticky for straight-line acceleration (I don't really do a lot of hard cornering, but they seem to hold corners pretty well). This is compared to the Goodyear GS-C's, and the G-Force Sports are inexpensive too.

Stock tires on a F body never had a 35 series tire on it. The 275's are 40 series stock. If yours had that then someone slipped the wrong size on there. Check your door tag.

The Nitto 555 have held up well for me. I run 285/40r17 on my ZR1 replicas. But they will work fine in the 275/40r17 size and are only $140 each from discounttiredirect.com a sponsor.

The S-drive and R1R are vastly different tires. The S-drive is a max performance summer tire. The R1R, NT-05, and Ecsta XS are ultra high performance/autocross type tires.
