Default What do my plugs tell me?

My car was detonating something fierce after my tune. So i thought id start with the plugs and see how they looked. I pulled all 8 tr5's gapped at .38 and replaced them with the factory a/c delcos gapped at .50's. Anyways, heres what all 8 plugs looked like when I pulled them.

You're looking at a plug that's been fowled by Methylcyclopentadienyl Manganese Tricarbonyl (MMT).

MMT is used frequently in Octane Boost, especially in the brand "104+ Octane Boost" and "Super104+ Octane Boost".

you can clean them off, and it shouldn't affect the plugs performance

It seems to be running great since i changed the plugs out. We'll see how the next few thousand miles go.

I didn't know the name of the chemical that did this, but I am inclined to agree. Every time I see a plug that is orange like that, even if just in a small spot not the entire plug, the owners tell me they've run octane boost or cleaners on them.

Yeah, I put a bottle of lucas octane booster in it a few weeks ago before I went to the track, It was a useless attempt to combat the horrible oklahoma 91 octane.
