Edelbrock headers, fab up my plates for 1" setback (like the Edelbrock plates), using the RetroLS pan.. no problems as long as you have the correct motor mounts and frame stands.

Really? I had a heck of a time with that oil pan, I needed to raise the motor

Billsnogo.. I was meaning to ping you, cause I know you have been having a fit with your setup.. Here is a run down of what I had going....

I just test fitted it yesterday.. I used 1/2" alum to fab the plates. Energy Short/Wide motor mounts.

I first started off without the use of the pre-load plates, the bolt lined up ok. but there was one spot on the Cross member that just touched the oil plan. The RetroLS pan is a bit deeper in the front. (more than F-body and my CTS-V pan).

To solve that. I put the pre-load plate between the plate and the motor mount. Then tried it again. The bolt would not line up as you found out.

To solve that, I used a round router bit / or file bit. I made all of the frame holes for the stands oblong (about 1/8" to 3/16" higher on both sides). then added a thick washer between the frame and the frame stands and alll lined up ok. So, only some minor adjustments to my setup. Could have been my estimation of the plate that could have been off, I didn't have a real Edelbrock plate to use as a Template. So I guess-a-mated. I guess I got close.. LOL

I might use a flat peice of steel plate to connect all of the holes so that it would be stronger ?? maybe not ??.

So, I did raise the engine bit. But it couldn't have been more than 1/4" - 3/8" over all with the final adjustments. If anything, it will give the pan and headers some extra room.

I will be working on a 4L60e trans cross member and finishing up the plates.. I left them rough for the trail fitting.

careful raising the motor, I had to do the same thing on mine to clear my LY6 pan, but it changes the drive line angles. I am unable to correct the altered angles because the transmission touches the floor before I can raise it enough to fix the front u-joint angle. this winter the engine comes out and either a shallower pan, or notched crossmember is happening.
the angle on the front u-joint of mine is + 2* and the rear is -4*. causes a fairly annoying vibration at and above hwy cruise speed.

I am using a Moroso oil pan in my Nova, along with 3/8" thick conversion plates and solid Moroso mounts. I ended up notching my crossmember in order to have some clearance for the pan.

This is a stock LS1 pan from an 02 Trans Am that was modified by Street & Performance. This is in my 69 Firebird. You send them your pan and they notch it for you to clear the center link. No problems for clearances.

Hope this helps

Lot's of folks using LH8 pans from colorado/H3(5.3L) and that's the one I'm planning to pick up soon for my 69 camaro. I'll let you know if it fits. It is also recommended by 2 builders I talked to and brp. Not sure if it will work with hedman kit.

Measure your pan, have someone local cut it and weld it up, cut to much off and you'll have oil control problems in heavy cornering or braking, cut too much off and the factory baffle that bolts in the pan is useless,

If you want avoid all the "which frame stands/mounts/pan" problem, use a F bod pan and make your own adapter plates to put the engine just far enough back to clear the center link. It can be done and is the cheaper route.

This is a popular topic today.

Here's a link to some pics of an LS1 with a uncut F-body pan in my 67. Mount plate and engine stand details included. See page 2.

I just got off the phone with Holley and they are coming out with a cast aluminum factory style oil pan for first gen camaros. Comes out in December probably under the hooker brand.

Ditto for me. I then used the Energy Suspension 'short & wide' motor mounts without the backing plates which come with the mounts.
As with 68 RS Convertible, the oil stock oil pan would have fit without modification, although mine had already been modified.
In addition, there was plenty of room between the firewall and the rear of the block, contrary to what I had read previously about this setup.
I did have to grind the bottom screw on my alternator so that the alternator would clear the crossmember.
