Can 5.3l heads be used on a 6.0l block?

Yes, they are perfectly interchangeable and many go with a ported 5.3L head on the dished piston 6.0L (LQ4) in order to bump their compression up a bit!

Thanks guys,

I just trying to decide which way I should go. Build the 4.8 up to a 383 or just buy a 6.0 and start with it.

If you can get into a 6.0 for a good deal I would recommend it. There is a lot of potential in one of those 6.0 iron blocks. You can build 408 stroker motors from those and make some pretty respectable power for what it costs.

Didn't the lq9 6.0's have rectangular ports? I have a set of brandnew PRC 2.5's 5.3's uninstalled and a recently blown motor. The ports would be my deciding factor on whether to stay with the 5.7 or go 6.0

The 5.3's, 5.7's, and LQ4/LQ9's all had the cathedral ports (different ports, but same design, shape, and intake manifold capability).
