A body tie rod clearance?
How is everyone overcoming the tie rod to oil pan clearance. Is anyone using a rack and pinion. My buddy had an extra rack out of a fox body mustang. It looks close but with some ccustom mounts it might work. Anyone got any opinions.

It all depends on what oil pan you choose and what motor mounts you choose. The S&P modified oil pan fit in my A-body without issue. The f-body pan has notches in the front corners, many others do not

I used the muscle car conversion pan and brp style mounts and I used the original frame stands with a 1/2" spacer under them that I tapped and welded to the frame and tall and narrow energy suspension old chevy mounts I have no trouble at all I actually have a little too much clearance lol

Thanks guys. That kinda what I've been thinking. When you guys put the plates under your stands did you move the stands up in the frame to compinsate for the added height. Thanks
And my setup is a LQ4/T56 with F-body acc and the LH8 pan

The mounts do have to move up the frame, you are correct. I found that by tapping the spacer plates and bolting it all to the engine first that it was easier. Because then I could just set the einge in and get it level then tack down the spacers and then detach the engine and weld the spacers to the frame, there by eliminating the need for putting nuts inside the frame to bolt down the frame stands

Just an FYI another option is to use a stock f-body engine mount and build your on frame stands and locate everything were you want it. I'm not sure what you guys are paying for the conversion engine mount kits but it is very cheap to build your on stands and use a stock oem engine mount. Even if you dont have a welder you can mock it up with card board take it to a local welder and get it fabbed fairly cheap I would thank. You can see this done in my build thread.

Here's one of them in the car. (Excuse the nasty looking tack welds.) I started out with this style I like the "clam shell" mount as they are around every where. My project has taken a turn toward a C5 as in a complete C5 front end so I'll be building a complete front clip and C5 mounts.

I will be using all of the components but not the cradle. It places the motor too far back in relation to the center line of the front wheels, I would have to cut move the fire wall 7". I'm going to build a clip from the fire wall forward. My biggest hurdles are whether to add anti-dive to the uppers and location of the rack. I need to move it forward from it's "factory" location to clear the harmonic balancer, but that is going to mess with the bump steer.
