What should I do for exhaust?
I own a 97 TA A4 and I'm not sure what route to take with my exhaust in the end. I want a good flow, good sounding exhaust, not one to break the bank (no GMMG). The car is a DD in the summer and sees the track rarely. Current modifcations are CAI (turning into a lid) and that's all at the moment.
The headers I own already are Pacestter ceramic coated race headers for my 97.
Option #1: (already own) 3" true dual with X-pipe, featuring Sweet Thunder mufflers. Dumps before the axle with turn downs.
Option #2: Over the axle 3" true duals (or 2.5?") with knock off single chamber mufflers. Like TSpence here on the forum.
Option #3: Use the PS Y-pipe and buy a Magnaflow cat-back.
Future mods include: LE 228/236 cam, 160* stat, 58MM TB, 3.73 gears, 3400RPM stall, and home ported heads (maybe LE's).

Depending on your tolerance, dumps before the axles can get old and irritating pretty quick. I'd suggest doing over the axle if it's TD or not. I'd do option 3 except try to find a SLP 2OTL catback.

I didn't realize Hooker had such an awesome following!
I may have to check into it. Just curious, where did you guys pick yours up at?
I can get a Magnaflow for $349 and summit has Hooker for $359 + shipping.

FWIW hooker quality control has gone to ****. I just helped my dad put a catback on his 00 WS6 and all of the pipes were significantly crushed on the ends from the shitty packaging, and it required a good amount of cutting and bending to get the tailpipes to line up. Not to mention the hole cut for the merge on his y-pipe was about 1/2 the size it should be. The new exhaust tips seem like they are made out of tin foil now too. He deformed them by tugging on them to try to line up the tailpipes.

When I was rocking a 3" y-pipe/catback setup I was running a magnaflow muffler. Couldn't tell ya which one, but it sounded awesome. Currently running a 3" x-pipe dumped before the rear. Sounds even better IMO

If you want it to be loud then go for an x-pipe dumped before the axle.. I have taken many long trips and cruising at 70-75 at 3k rpm can get annoying..all you hear is the humm....
So, I did Pacesetter LT's, Hooker ORY, and a Borla cat back..Its quiet enough to drive normal..Until you nail it then the monster comes out..
