Drag radials are hard on manual transmissions to begin with. When you get wheel hop, it tends to tear stuff up.

i wouldnt think wheel hop would cause the ta to break off the trans would it?

Get the torque arm mounted separate from the tailhousing and get unscared.

Yes, wheel hop will potential vibrate the tailhousing in a bad way.

thats another issue. i havent decided on either a short ta or just a relocation kit. i dont have the money for either right now anyway. im just curious at what point does it actually become a major cause for concern?

you just got prostars and ET streets but dont have money for a TQ Arm relocation brascket? i would say thats your cheapest and best bet, if your concerned about it. relocation bracket is cheaper than a new tailshaft housing if you break it

thats why i dont have any money. i wasnt expecting to buy them so soon but a good deal came up.

so no one knows what 60ft ppl generally break it?

Wheel hop is absolutely one of the most damaging things that you can have happen to a car. It repeatedly hits the drivetrain with quick, hard, hits and guarrenteed to break shiz.

At my lovely track they do not put enough water down and my 26" slicks wheel hopped BADLY and on 2 different occasions busted a 600+ Dollar Tru Trac Differential.

I have not broken a Trans Tailshaft yet, but recently installed a TQ arm relocation cross member. BMR makes specific reference in their TQ arm section that you can break these things running into the 10's (10.99 or quicker) IMO its about the "hit". Which is a Force applied at launch and race weight factors in greatly too.

i knew wheel hop tears up rear ends i just didnt think it would cause the trans to break

I hear yea, but think about this what does the TQ attatch to? and what does the rear end do? Basically move up and down and twist on the factory clamshell bracket and if you have a aftermarket TQ arm, its stronger then stock and does not break as easily and ultimately can break off the tail shaft.

Stock TQ arms will grenade or bust out of the clam shell well before breaking the case. BUT with a aftermarket arm, its in a tube and not 2 peice like stock.

actually my moser ta uses the stock clamshell to mount to the trans. u think ill break that before i break the trans?

the stock clamshell is steel

the tailhousing is aluminum

in comparison, the tailshaft housing is a one piece, thick piece of cast aluminum. the clamshell is two pieces of thin stamped steel so i would think it could go either way

Look up the definition of "Force" and that explains it. The stock piece bolts through the tail shaft and the case is not forged aluminum or anything so the strength is not there.
