Default Ok lets see if somebody can answer this for me

i have a 06 impala ss. now when i turn off my traction control it will smoke the tires going forward in a straight line. but i i try to roast the tires around the corner it wont it burns them then stops then burns them and stops like the traction control is on. at first i thought it was the esc but i found out that in 06 they did not have esc. so whats the deal why wont my car burn the tires around corners?

Its called Diff Score. Its part of abuse mode that prevents you from breaking your diff. It is not disabled when you turn traction control off.

Simplistically, if the system detects one wheel spining far more than the other, its going to apply torque management (pull throttle, pull timing and pull fuel). You tend to get more one sided wheel spin in a turn, than in a straight line.

I suppose if one really wanted, you can turn it off in HP tuners. Safer would be to re-do the torque reductions specs. Of all the torque management features build into this package, one might consider leaving this one alone.

Cheers

Just be glad you found out that the car does this before you attempted to cut out into traffic and had the car bog down like that. About a year ago, there was a car being sold part-by-part on ebay due to some guy jumping out in traffic with t/c off, diff score protection kicked in, and he was rear ended by a semi. OUCH! Lesson learned the hard way.
