Default broken pump?

4l60e, Vig 3200 upon start up pump is working and car will move but as soon as you put any load on it everything is gone. Restart the car the process starts over. If i pull a cooler line on start up lots of pressure, put a little load on it so whatever happens does its thing and pull a cooler line no pressure.

It could be a pump but i think your filter is plugged up.Pull the pan and look for debris either way it needs to come out.

I had this happen once on a th350 in a '73 buick. I rebuilt the trans for a guy at work.

That buick flexplate was like tin foil. He drove the car approx 50 miles before it quit moving, I shimmed the converter back 1/8" and he drove it approx 75 miles more, then it stopped.

I replaced the pump and converter and shimmed it 1/4" back and it's been fine since (4 years).

This car had the same symptoms you describe.

The converter was just under 5/16 out off tranny I shimmed it to between 1/8 and 3/16 off the tranny. I did this on monday and it is worse now. I kinda thought it was just the progression of the tranny getting worse.

Maybe the flexplate is cracked and letting the converter move out. Would probably make some kind of noise though.

Forgot to mention just installed the converter Saturday so it is not tuned yet. It did run flawlessly on saturday though probaly 20-25 miles. Then sunday it just didnt feel the same. Did some researching and thats where i come up shiming the converter back. Recomended spacing is between 1/16-3/16 off tranny.

Well had some time tonight so i pulled the pan to find lots of metal, definately enough to clog the filter. So with nothing else to do and having fluid and filter setting on the shelf i throw it in after flushing everything i could. Fire it up and the damb thing works, with a ticking noise coming from the back half of the tranny. So whats the best possible scenario.

Unfortunatly there really is no good scenario the trans is going to have to come out and get rebuilt & the converter you just installed is going to have to get cut open and cleaned. You are on borrowed time with this trans & i would not go far with the car because you will probably get stuck.

Ya going to get another tranny and converter tomarrow so at least the car will be running. Already called PI about the converter 225 plus shipping for that. Now for the tranny, I dont plan on doing anything to the car as far prformance but would like to run this stall so what if anything do I need to have in the trans to hold it. Thanks Shawn
