Default dyno tuned...will new heads improve the power?

Well to start I got a dyno tune a while ago car put down 389 hp and 345 tq. Right now there is an ls6 intake, a 228 238 cam, stock 241 heads, hooker super comp LT's, 3in exhaust, borla, E-dump.

Would putting 243 castings also possibley getting the deck milled to raise compression help the hp and tq out any? Also would I need another tune or would it be okay to drop the heads in with no tune? I dont really have the cash to drop on another tune if its truely not needed. If I did get the deck milled what would be a good amount to have milled also what head gaskets would be best? Thanks guys

the 243s would add 20 hp,if you were tuned to 13.1 prior you will need a retune.

what do you mean by 13.1? the compression ratio?

Also would 5.3 stock heads be worth while at all?

So what does it mean to be tuned to 13.1? I'm leaning towards 243 heads already did the research on stock 5.3 heads, wouldn't do good

13.1 air fuel ratio...which is the leanest "safe" mark for WOT

yes you will need a tune, you will likely need injectors, head bolts, head gaskets, ect

243/799 should get you 20hp, 30-40hp if they are ported

You would need to be retuned. I went from 241's to 243's and had them worked up from AI. I had my car retuned because I also installed a cam"mild cam" and picked up 100hp from the cam-Heads and a great tune!

Is the tune truely needed if everything is setup properly and the injectors can handle the hp?

Let's put it this way, you will be adding more air volume to your engine thus you will need more fuel. After all said and done, you will need to get it tuned to make it all work together.

New questIon now. Would fully ported and polished 243s compare to say an afr 205 or similar size combustion chamber? Possibly bigger valves on the afr?

I think with the 205's you might get like another 15hp but you will also spend another $1000 bucks.

I don't know the lift on your cam but I milled my 243's 24 thousands to get a 11.05 compression. Use stock GM MLS head gaskets because cometics are expensive and suck.

Including all parts, a head swap is going to cost another $500-700 over whatever you spend on the heads. (Tune, head bolts kit, gaskets, ect)
