I just pulled the center chunk out of my Moser 9" for a gear swap, and ended up going with a detroit locker set up. Last night I was putting it all back together and can't slide the passanger side axle all the way in. It only lacks about 1/2" from the bearing being flush with the housing (or being completely in). I've tried tapping it in with diffferent hammers, but it feels like it is bottomed out, and won't travel the last 1/2". PLEASE help this thing is wooping my ass.

Yes driver side is in already...what do you think pulling it will accomplish?

IF the passenger fits fine then the drivers doesn't. . . then your axles have issues.

IF not, then the center section is the issue...

I called the shop that set the gears and they said nothing that they did would cause the axles from sliding all the way in. Is this true.....or is there a wrong way to set up the gears causing the axles not to fit?

I would think you might need to loosen the bolts/nuts on the 3rd member, wiggle it around a bit while someone else tries to insert the axle. . .

For future reference....I eneded up cutting the axle down by 1'2", and she fit just fine. Must be something with the detroit locker rear end that is 1/2" shallower than the tru track posi unit that was in it from Moser.

I would of told him to try what Duffster suggested, which was to remove the driver side axle and then see if the passenger side axle fit. In the end, he did what was necessary, which was to remove .5 from the axle. Bob

Just for some info had to have my driver side axle side cut because of it hitting inside the tru trac (trucrap) about a half inch
