What gear do you guys use to do your burnout in the waterbox? I've always used first. I've tried using 2nd on the street but it's tough without a linelock. I figure it would be easy at the track when in the water box. Just thought I'd ask you guys who spend a lot of time at the track.

I usually roll through the waterbox and get about 5-10 feet forward of it, then (with my line lock) use 2nd. . . No help, other than to say, don't burnout IN the waterbox :)

Yea I didn't mean in the water box. Roll through the water about 5 ft and do it. I just don't want to bog down. Maybe I should stick with 1st until I get a line lock.

Just make sure when you install the linelock it's for the FRONT wheels, I know it sounds obvious, but you'll be surprised about all the hoses...and use a relay to power the line lock solenoid, don't run straight power through the switch...

I use 2nd gear. I use to do a burnout in 1st before I installed a line-lock but it didn't generate enough wheel speed to put heat in the tires.

3rd has always worked best for me.

I say spend $100 or so and get a line lock, sounds like 2nd works best. They are extremely easy to install and for a few extra dollars you can probably get a line lock that is specifically made for your car and you won't have to bend anything. Loosen the line install and bleed. Less then and hour and you can burnout in any gear you choose without destroying your rear brakes.

Use second and don't do the burnout IN the water box. You'll throw water all up inside the fender wells and the people behind you won't be very happy when it drips on the track. Throw a line lock on the car to help with this.

Best way to do it is to pull through the water box, gag it while it's in the box just enough to spin the tires over once and get the entire tire wet, stop outside the box, engage the line lock, and let it eat in 2nd (or 3rd if you've got a super tall rear gear). Release the line lock whith the gas still on the floor and let the car ride out until you feel like it's about to hook and then push in the clutch.

Definitely make sure you push the clutch in BEFORE the tires hook up. It's very hard on the clutch otherwise.

I have done burnouts in 1st for ET drags on a T-56 Six Speed which is a 2.66 1st and 4.10 rear gear and I got them plenty sticky.

I pull through the water box, slight spin in water, move past the edge of the box, engage line lock, then 1st gear burn and flip the lock off and allow for it to roll out the burnout.

Works fine any time.

I do my burn out in second gear with a line lock usually only do a ~4sec burnout, went 1.31 60' last time out.
