Whats the differance between a LS1-LS6 Fbody-Corvette, etc...

Pretty basic question. Looks like I blew the motor in my 01Z over the weekend I wanted try and see what the difference is between all the generations. I am more concerned with the block. My Lingenfelter heads, cam, boltons, etc... would all go to my new motor.
