any ideas? i dont have a engine hoist.. it looks like thats the only way.. any other ideas? just to be clear im doing a rebuild and its the whole adapter and seal

That's the only other way I could have seen it done. Too late for that though. You NEED an engine hoist.

The oil pan seals to the adapter, so it has to be installed before the pan.

... to clarify if needed, just the adapter plate for the seal has to go on before the pan. Not the actual seal.

Just as an option....but you need 3 people....2 hold it while the 3rd loosens the bolts then lower the block so you can get to the adapter without too much struggle and tighten the bolts (u can also flip the motor and raise it with manpower)...it'll still be tight but it canbe done...definitely go buy a picker though, harbor frieght is cheap enough...

Harbor Freight is cheap but you get what you pay for. I got my hoist there and if I would lift the engine 3" off the floor, within 10 minutes it was sitting on the oil pan. They work for the occasional engine pull/install.

I was just about to post the same thing! Spin the engine upside down and you should have plenty of room, Just like shown in the pic above.

ill give that a shot.. seems like it can be done with one person if i just loosen the bottom two adjusters and ever so slightly the top too.. let it slide down..

Why not wait until the engine is in the bay or just prior to putting the flywheel/flexplate on?
