When I did mine and subsequently took it back off my process was:

-Paint with VHT
-2 Coats of clear
-Sit overnight
-Started sanding with 1000
-Went to 2000
-Polished with I believe Meguiars Professional Swirl Remover
-Coat of wax

Oh yeah you can definitely wetsand. I started with 1500, moved up to 2000, then 2500. After that was a rotary with turtle wax polishing compound. glossy as if they left the factory that way.

I did 1500 to 2000, then a rubbing compound, then a polishing compound, then wax...and you're done.

Before and after pictures.

The best part about doing the wet sanding is I could take care of some runs that I had, as well as a few bubbles. Now, they're basically no flaws in the paint.

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Not exactly sure, I think maybe 1000. Then cleaned them with 99.8% alcohol.

I went to look, and it was 700 grit sand paper. I didn't spend more then a few minutes scuffing the tail lights.
