Default oil pump o-ring install on pick up tube first or pump first?

on the oil pump o-ring are you supposed to install it on the pick up tube first or the oil pump first and then slide it in ? i was reading GMhightechperformance.com and they installed it in the pump first. curious on peoples opinions.

Tube, it is meant to slide into the pump where there is a chamfer to step down the diameter and squeeze the o-ring. That was dumb of the magazine to do it that way.

Definitely onto the tube first, and then the tube with o-ring into the pump!
