Default TH400's

Can a TH400 be fitted to a LS-1? I have been told no. I figured with an adapter plate will be needed but what else? the TH400 is for an Aussie Holden 308 so if any aussies here have experiance with this would be cool

It bolts right up. You won't use all the bolt holes, but that's not a problem you'll have plenty of bolts into it to hold it together.

v8 ute, how easy was it? main reason i ask is i have a TH400 already in my HJ 1 tonner so would be easier to keep that in as an auto would be a bit more tractable than manual me thinks.

Any special bits needed to fit them?

It will be dead easy for you, as the trans is already in place.
Only need to get a torque converter that fits. Any converter shop can do this if they have a few measurements.
I had my converter from my 4L60E adapted to fit.

Excellent thanks for the info, what torque converter do you recommend i'm looking at around a 3500 hi-stall. Will also get the TH400 rebuilt stronger and stage 2 shift kit rather than fully manualised.

Current shifters a B&M Mega shifter which I think should be sufficient

I have a converter from The Converter Shop, they are in Brisbane 0733908824 Jeff is the guy there and since he has done converters for LS1's to TH400's it might be worth giving him a call.
I think Dominator have done a converter for Howquicks LS!/TH400 setup you could try them too I 'spose.

3500 stall is good but it depends on what you want from your car and what camshaft/diff gears etc you are running.
When you talk to the converter dudes tell them about your setup and what you would like and they will have good recommendations.

A shift kit and good internals are all that's needed on a TH400 if you are after a street/strip car ....plus you get the bonus of having a normal operational auto.

I don't know and don't really care.

I wanted a box that can launch 3800 lb's on a trans brake with 700 hp N/A and a couple of hundred extra on the gas.... TH400 fits the bill.

Unless you upgrade a TH350, its just gonna break. Why not "over" transmission your car. As you add more horsepower and torque, you will be glad you got a TH400.

Besides, the transbrake makes it all worth while!! MUWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
