To port a intake or not?
Is it really worth it to have a ported intake? I have read many reviews where people are making better power and or the same with a stock unmodified intake. At what power level does it really matter to have a ported intake? I am running a 388 with afr 210 heads and have a stock intake laying around but will a ported intake be better? Let me know guys and anyone with proven stats come inside

Although the factory manifold is often maligned, the power is primarily in the cylinder heads and valve train. Our customers typically don't get into porting the manifold until they are looking to get into the mid 4XXrwhp range or higher. If done properly it should compliment the setup, and with AFR's port entry and your particular setup it may be worth some attention. Unless the transition is inordinately poor, however, I believe whatever gain you see will be relatively small.
In short, sure, it can help, but as always in the end it comes down to how it was executed since 'ported' is a broad term.
Good luck!

I have a similar combination (398 with 210 comp ported afrs) I was running a as sold edelelbrock lt4 intake. I bought a second and sent it Lingenfelter and without changing anything I picked up 2 tenths and 4 MPH in the quarter with no other changes. My new deal should be ready here in the next couple of weeks a few more cubes, more compression, and 227 AFR heads. I am going to try a borrowed sheet metal intake back to back with the ported edelbrock so we will see what happens then. When I looked at the two side by side you could really tell where they had worked on it, some of the best money I spent last year. I have a snap on inspection camera and when you put it down in the intake and look at where the intake runners meet the heads it is a perfect fit.
