It would be much easier to run a 94 harness.

You will have some extra connections on the late harness, like rear O2s, crank sensor, EVAP vacuum switch and the coil connector won't match. You would have to keep your opti harness, too.

but otherwise all the other connections are the same?!? i am switching to a vented opti so i have the new connector.. as far as the coil connector goes are all the wires the same the shape of the connector is different or what? could i just move my connector to the new harness? i have an msd coil so i would like to keep it.. but worse case couldnt i buy a coil from an obd2 car?

I'm switching to a 95 opti as well but the only thing you need is a new opti harness and stupid vacuum tubes (which I'm not putting on.) Oh, and a longer cam dowel..

Yeah, I think all the others match up.

You can compare wiring differences of the coil connectors with schematics on my Tech Page.

There are some differences in the wiring so have a look through the connectors in the link http://shbox.com/1/harness_connector_faces.htm

So by not using the "stupid vacuum tubes" you will have successfully made the first vent opti into a non vented conversion. You are defeating the whole purpose of making the swap by not putting the hoses on.

Run the vent lines cause they will keep your opti alive.

I'm pretty sure you WANT to put those vacuum tubes on.....that's the main thing that makes the 95+ opti better. It's the vent system that helps keep moisture out.

OP: I am pretty sure just switching the coil to the obd2 style or switching the connectors and keeping your current coil will both work fine, but I'm sure the others have much more lt1 knowledge than myself.

shbox, I have a 97 but swapped to a 95 pcm and knock sensor a few months back. It's running fine, but I noticed that not only is the coil different, but also the ICM carries a different part number. I'm still running the 97 coil and ICM. I know the coil is fine as-is, but is there a compatibility issue with the 97 ICM and the 95 PCM??

OP: I'm thinking it's okay to ask this in your thread since it's kinda relevant and may or may not be something that you have to consider with your harness swap. Otherwise I'd have just started a new thread.

What's the point in converting to a vented optispark without using the vents?

Not with the correct diameter tubing, flow reducer, backflow prevention valves, and elbows. Sure you could just throw any old tubing on there, but the FR and BPV are extremely important in keeping your optispark oil and crud-free.
