Default Popping/backfiring

Guys,

I've been searching the forum but havent had any luck finding what i need. Heres the issue, the car "pops" on decel while driving. Only around town during those speeds, 25-30mph. It doesnt jus pop like a normal lt1 f-body, these are loud (almost like a shotgun) pops or backfire, whichever.

Ive had the car since 05, and never had an issue until after i deleted the egr, a.i.r., etc. I did drive the car for a while, until i got a mail order tune from madz. Had that stuff tuned out, tuned out rear 02's also. This was all done back in 08, before i sold the car, and just bought it back in 2010. I know the guy who bought it from me, he didnt mess with it at all.

btw, its a 96 6spd car.

Its got LT's,ory, into 2.5in all the way back no muffler, madz tune, tr6 (its sprayed), talyor wires, etc. Only minor bolt on's.

What can be causing this?? any ideas would be great.

Thanks guys, and i know this has prolly been beatin to death.

Kyle

what are your plugs gapped at looking at your mods looks like its a bolt-on car with a shot of NOS lol... you are running a cold plug which could be killing your spark, but it could work depending on your gap of the plugs...

I'm almost positive their gapped at .45..

Also, when I 1st took the egr, n air out, the car ran terrible, unless it was at wot. But seemed to stop all of a sudden if I remember correctly. And I deleted the ac while I was at it.

bump.

I am bringing this back. Just got the car back out and it still does the popping/backfiring it did last year. Plugs look good, wires are fine. Pulled the IAC out and cleaned it, will be getting a new IAC this weekend. Could this be a tune problem? I checked all the vaccum lines and they look fine. Car runs great and pulls hard. idles fine.

Help me get this figured out, its driving me nuts!

I will check them again this weekend. Opti is fine, car runs great and pulls hard. Idles good, and throttle response is good also. No exhaust leaks that i can find.

I will try starting it at night to see if there is any spark anywhere.

I have a lt4 knock module that i never installed, would that be any help with this problem?

I've read that this can be caused by exhaust leaks. Don't really understand how, but that's what I've heard.

I've been told exhaust leaks will cause this also, gonna double check the headers again and see.

Probly will throw the lt4 knock module in and see if that helps anything. (Probly won't)
