Good head and cam combo for LT1 impala ss.
Posting up for my uncle who might be interested in doing this swap. Just want to know what's involved. From what I see online the swap has been done before, but what has to be done engine harness wise? Custom harness or is there a harness that's plug-and-play? I see he will need a different oil pan and engine mounts.
Other mods include aluminum driveshaft, 3:73 gears, 2400 stall, built 4L60 with shift kit, Hooker coated shorty headers, 1.6 RR's, Bigger TB, and ram-air intake.
TIA,
Chris,

Re: ls1 swap
Not worth the trouble...
Spend a load of cash, and a ton of effort to have a STOCK lsx... Or put that effort and money into the LT1 and RAPE lsx cars..
Up to him, either can be just as fast. Just takes knowledge

Another question, how tunable are LT1's? I thought I remember reading somewhere that there aren't alot of people tuning them. Is there software to tune them like HPtuners or?

There are lots of good combos out there. If you're looking for someone who can give you a complete package, I would call advanced induction.
Dewayne on here runs 11.50s with their heads / cam on the stock short block.
Lloyd Elliott is another great choice. He's an awesome guy who does good work and can make **** FLY.
The new Trickflow 21 degree heads are nice, you could put those on and MATCHING cam for the car's weight, intended use, etc and have a beast.
Lots of directions to head. Just do your research, and more importantly call and TALK to these shops that have a PROVEN track record of producing the results you want to attain.
Anyone can throw you a combo together and sell you the parts, but the total package is what's important.
There's a trifecta of performance in my opinion, hard parts, TUNING (engine, drivetrain, and suspension), and supporting mods.
Approach it as a total package and be realistic about your goals, and budget, and you (he) will be happy with the results.
I guess what I'm saying is dont half *** it like everyone else who builds an LT1 then blame it on the LT1 and say its slow. Like everything else you only get out what you put in. Put good stuff in, get good stuff out.
Remember: half assed is half fast

OBD I is tunercats, Lt1edit, and tunerpro.
OBD II is Jet DST, or Lt1edit.
You wont find every street corner shop that will be able to tune it but there are plenty of capable tuners across the country. You can get a mail order as a base line and any competent tuner can dial it in from there, or you can take the car to a nearby shop to have it dyno tuned after all the mods, which is optimum.
Of course there's always the option of swapping in the LSx pcm, ignition, etc and using HP Tuners or EFI...

Something along the lines of 350, maybe even 400 whp? The car will have a full audio system, so we're definitely not trying to build a race car. Something he can cruise in, be comfortable in, drive his family in, take to car shows, and hand people their asses when time is due .

^^Man all you guys really don't care for LE do ya? lol To each their own.
I do agree with the statement above about running a 185-190cc head of some kind with a matching cam with the weight of the car in mind because if I had a B-Body that would be the route I would take.

Wow, we are really liking Lloyd elliots package right now. What do you guys think of this setup.
CAM
223/230 .565/.565 112 LSA. - 1700-6100 RPM
Largest emissions friendly cam. Pretty mild idle and still able to work with stock gears and factory converter in F or Y body. Needs small stall and gears for B body. Comparable to GM Hot Cam and Crane 846 cam.
Along with their LT1-LE1 heads, seems like a solid deal.
Should be good for ~380whp with a tune and the mods he currently has i'd think?
Also he was telling me he wanted to switch to LT4 intake manifold cause it's bigger? Is it really? And does it make a worthwhile difference? Should he just get a ported LT1 intake manifold?
Thanks,
Chris,
