This was posted over on the NMCA board. Not sure of Trey's source if it is still in effect. Can one our locals look into this and confirm please.

As part of one of these projects, we are proposing to close Interstate 64 between Interstate 55/70 and IL Rte 111 in East St. Louis, IL from 9:00 p.m. October 8th through 5:00 a.m. October 11th in order to demolish the 15th Street Bridge over Interstate 64.
This project involves removing the existing structure and replacing it with a new structure. Additional work includes resurfacing St. Clair Avenue between 15th Street and 18th Street; relocation of the eastbound exit ramp to a new location across from Wabasha Street; and the relocation of eastbound entrance ramp to Interstate 64 at the same intersection. The westbound entrance ramp will also be relocated to a new location on Baugh Avenue between 15th and 18th Street.

I think 64 was the road I had the problem with climbing the mountains. I think, not sure. It rang a bell in my head. :D

I64 road closure during our weekend.
This was posted over on the NMCA board. Not sure of Trey's source if it is still in effect. Can one our locals look into this and confirm please.Oh great, :eyes: :nono: that could be another 15-30 minutes less sleep for many of us LOL.
That's like the main artery to the track from the Fairview Heights/hotel area, correct?
I hope it's not true. :(
I think 64 was the road I had the problem with climbing the mountains. I think, not sure. It rang a bell in my head. :DHmm, I wouldn't think that would be the case around that area, it's quite flat out there LOL. :)

I can try and look into it. There is a lot of road construction in that area.

Marc google maps is showing 70 for me, so likely it would be for you too. 70 is north of 64

Marc google maps is showing 70 for me, so likely it would be for you too. 70 is north of 64From the host hotel (and the 5 or 6 other hotels/motels in the same area) Route 64 appears to be the only highway to the track unfortunately. The hotels are literally right off of that highway.
It's only 11 miles or so but this could still be 3-4 days of backroads disaster for A LOT of people if it's true. :(

I am sure many will get lost on back roads cause of this, we might be one of them.

GIR is directly off of I55. There has been a lot of road construction in the metro area due to the stimulus bs. I think everyone will be fine if you take I64W to I255N to I55S. I'll look up some more info on this closure and help with directions if what I posted above is affected.
GPS is your friend.
I255 and I270 are loops that go around St. Louis.

East St. Louis, IL (KSDK) -- The Illinois Department of Transportation will close both directions of a stretch of Interstate 64 in East St. Louis, beginning Friday, October 8.
According to IDOT spokesman John Scheibal, the closures start that evening at 9 p.m. and will continue until Monday, October 11 at 5 a.m. All work is weather permitting.
The I-64 will be closed from west of Illinois 111 to the I-64/55/70 split. The interstate closure is necessary to remove the 15th Street Bridge over I-64.
All traffic will be detoured around the area via I-255 and I-55/70.
KSDK
So everyone coming from the host hotel or any part besides the STL side will take a detour.

This route is all highway and avoids the area of construction

This route will be the same time but less miles. It also takes you through some bad parts of town past a majority of the strip clubs

The I-64 closure won't be a big deal for the race. If you're coming from the east on 64, turn north on I-255, then west on I-55/70. If you're coming from the south on I-255, go past the 64 exit and take 55/70. People coming from the north on 55/70 and the west on 44/55/70 through St. Louis should not be affected.
FWIW, the area being closed is between exit #3 and #6 on this map.

Does not look that bad at all to detour after driving some of it last night.

The closure is actually in a pretty good place as it's not hard to detour up 255.
Now, when they tore down Exchange Avenue right by the track and shut down 55/70...that was a nightmare.

Best of luck for those coming from Fairview Heights/Collinsville to the track.
