Question aluminum driveshaft

ive been searching around and havent been able to find a straight answer. what kind of performance improvements can i expect with an aluminum dirveshaft on an a4 lt1. how much does it increase acclecraton by like 0-60 time, will i fee a noticeable difference in acceleeration? and what about any increased power to the wheels and quarter mile times?

the only dyno graph i have seen showed a 1hp/5tq gain, but that could have been a dyno variance. people don't do it for performance, they do it because their stock steel driveshaft vibrates and instead of getting it rebalanced they just slap on an aluminum one. but stick with the steel if it isn't giving you problems.

i dont think that you will really notice anything, i have one on mine, its just mainly to get rid of some spinning weight but, if you dont really need one just stick with the steel

it's debatable if there's any gain... not worth spending money on to me.

i bought a used AL one on here last winter from a ls1 guy. Can't say i noticed any differences, ive heard its suppose to be good for 1 hp also but not a big deal. It looks a little nicer than my rusted out steel one did.

I just want one to get rid of the vibration above about 65mph. The ones off of the 82-92 fbodies work on our cars don't they?

aluminum driveshafts arent good for performance anything. when you call for a custom one they will try to sell you a steel or chrome moly one. my guess is it was easier for gm to get ones made out of recycled aluminum cans then recycled steel

Driveshafts are just like anything. You get what you pay for.

Some good reading can be found here.

I've been running a stock aluminum LS1 DS for the past couple of years, picked it up for about $100 with low miles off this site. Didn't notice a difference, not really worth doing IMO. Once I get a rear I will upgrade but it hasn't broken yet with several 1.5 sixty foots knock on wood.

I got one for free, it's not good for much but cutting out vibrations and some rotating mass.

Inland Empire... glad I went elsewhere for my driveshaft, I've never liked the guys down there You can see why aluminum isn't a good driveshaft material (welds). The bonded MW shafts are nice, but definitely not cheap!

LS1 drive shafts break all the time... something to keep in mind if you decide to upgrade.
