Almost bought what seemed like a great deal on an LS1 the other day...

I spoke with both the husband and wife about the vehicle. The wife advised that she had no knowledge of any accidents the vehicle may have been involved in - while they owned it - or from it's entire history.

The husband and owner made no mention that the vehicle was at one point a write off - meaning the vehicles cost of repair was over 75% of the cost of the vehicle itself, advising it had been purchased from a friend - who was reported to never have driven the vehicle much either.

The LS1 in question was written off 2 months after it was purchased and was sold as salvage multiple times - the salvage title was obviously known to the parties involved - as they registered it themselves.

Sneaky sneaky sneaky.

The car may very well have been repaired to be as good as new. Maybe.
There is no way to know. What I do know is that rebuilds (severe damage rebuilds) are usually rebuilt with lower quality / used parts. They have the potential to have major problems in the future related to the sever damage and parts used...

It was a 35 dollar check that saved me from buying another persons problems.

I'm not saying the car is lemon. I don't know - but that's info I want upfront - not when I take my ownership to the MTO.

If its got a salvage title it should show on the Vehicle Information Package that the seller must provide to you.

^^^ that does not happen most of the time, you go to mto and have to buy it when you register the car in your name

It was a 2000 SS with the SLP package..
reported with under 21 000kms.

Yeah, the owner would have known right away.

I'm not saying it's bad to buy a salvage - it was the fact that they weren't honest about it.
The sale was presented as a "tonight only" sale. Very hurried.

I want to know if I am buying a salvage, and I will pay for it accordingly.

...keep in mind not all damage gets logged to Carfax-even more so if its a cash repair that didn't go through the insurance!
