Default Can y ou accidentally double seat a spring?

I know this is a stupid noob question, but its for peace of mind. The reason i ask whether its possible to accidentally double seat a spring is because for the life of me i cant find the last two seats from my stock springs after my cam install. Help me out thanks

Are you talking about a seat for a double spring? If so, no it will not sit on top of a stock seat.

this is what i was looking for. Yes they were stock seats and i was using the prc seats with their dual springs. Sigh of relief... now i just need to find where i put the last two seats

Well the stock seat should be attached to the stock valve seal. On the dual spring seat, it wont clear the valve seal, so the new seat has to go on first then another valve seal after. Thats why you cant seat over the stock seat bc the new seat would hit the stock valve seal.

Depends on the year. If the original seats were just flat washers then yes the new ones will likely just go over the top. If you had the later design where the seal and seat were one piece then no it won't.

its not the one piece, it was the seat and seal seperate. I may have to pull the valve covers today if this is the case

It was somewhere in the 01/02 time frame but not sure of the date. My 02 had the one piece.

This is why spring height should be checked when installing springs.

yeah i know but dummy me wanted to hurry up so i could fire it before it got to late last night. I got under the valve covers today and to my discovery it is very well possible because i notice cylinder 2 the springs werent sitting all the way down on the head. Im just glad it was cylinder 2 . Problem solved!
