Default losing power steering at random times

Drove my Camaro the other day, power steering was perfectly fine, totally normal. All of a sudden I had no power steering whatsoever. Parked the car, came back a while later, started the car and drove it, power steering was perfect.

After about 25 minutes of driving, it went out again. Parked it, went inside to go eat, came back out, started the car and drove it, power steering was again perfect.

Checked the fluid level and it has plenty of fluid and there are no leaks.

Is this an indication that the pressure relief valve in the pump is worn or no longer working? Bought the pump from here on tech, seller said it had 40k miles on it.

Thanks again for any help/advice

might be a slipping belt. mine used to slip when it was raining or wet out and i had a crap belt on it, switched to a gatorback belt and never had the problem again.

Thanks for the response. I thought that might be it also, but if the belt was slipping, wouldn't the other accessories have trouble also? Alternator/water pump?

if your not low on fluid, then your ps pump is going out.

I would agree with this statement. If your belt was slipping, chances are you could hear it and feel a difference (besides losing PS).

****. ah well, thanks for the responses. Anyone have any recommendations for a ps pump? I might just get the Vatozone replacement unless someone's got a better suggestion.

Noticed a ticking noise coming from the front of the engine today. Ticking gets faster with more throttle. Do PS pumps tick when they're going out?

Not sure on this, but it could be your manifold/header gaskets leaking
