Hey guys I was looking into rebuilding my t-56. However I was looking on ebay and there are few viper transmissions for sale. I feel like I could pick one up and make it work on my car. What all would I have to do to make this work. I'm thinking you would have to swap the input shaft and either get a new output shaft or a new yoke. Then swap my bell housing and shifter. Would we have to do anything else to make this work?

You can do the "Viper" upgrades to your transmission if you need them. At your power level, you dont.

try posting over in the manual transmission section, or search over there. I know what we need to do to make an lsx trans work on ltx and vica versa, but not clear on a viper trans. One thing to consider though, unless you are getting that trans for cheap, you won't know the quality of it and it may need a rebuild as well. you can probably get yours rebuilt to brand new for the cost of some of the used one's i see on ebay.

well i figure mines going to need at least 1000 in parts. Plus some one to rebuild it. So im looking at running 2k for the trans rebuild. Looking at viper transmission for around 1500. Swap everything and have a viper trans.

True on the condition. They have a warranty and looks like the come out of wrecked cars. I was just curious if it would work or not.

It does not take 1K in parts for a basic rebuild. What's wrong with your trans now?

Well my trans needs the basic rebuild parts. Might as well got to a stage 2. That's $650. I need a new input shaft. Its scored really bad. That is another $225. Then my reverse gear was on the way out. So who knows what else it will need. So i'm estimating around 1k for parts.

From what I've read, it costs more money to convert an LS1 t-56 to work with an LT1 than to just rebuild the tranny. I imagine its a similar story with the viper tranny; you probably would have to change the bell housing and input shaft.

you'd be better off paying for the rebuild and getting the upgraded parts. From your sig. you really don't need anything fancy. Spend the money on a quality rebuild with a warranty and get a decent clutch and be done with it. It'll save you headaches in the long run....to me no headaches are better than a few bucks. Just my $.02

Its not hard to do this but you need a different front cover and shaft.

Well, it really wouldn't be cost effective to start with. As everyone else has said, it'd be cheaper to rebuild the one you have more likely than not. Also, a viper trans isn't anything all that special. You could build your to stand up to more power than it would for probably about the same amount as what you'd spend on it.
