Default thinking of a cam swap

i am looking at a 212/218 cam with a 114 lsa. i would like to know if this cam passes ca smog?... also how would this sound compared to my stock one? if you have any experience with this cam or something similer please chime in or any good advice must pass ca emmisions. i know u r gona tell me to go bigger but i want good useable power on the street. thanks

you need like -5 overlap or underlap to pass emissions.

Sounds like you're looking at a shelf cam from COMP, with only 520/527 lift. But you could gain a noticeable bit more power and torque if you custom order the same duration and LSA, but from the higher-lift lobes. That won't affect emissions, and your lift goes to 558/563.

Thats a really small cam. I wouldnt think its worthwhile. At least do what Isolde suggested,

The Tr224 has passed smog tests before with -4 overlap, that cam has -13 overlap and is way too tiny to justify the swap costs. Go with at least a tr220 or 220r to be safe in passing emissions but even that is still small. I would get a cam spec'd by PatG on EPS lobes for more power under the curve by increasing lift to 0.560-.0570.

I agree with everyone. That cam is way too small to justify doing the swap. a 220r or 224r should be ok.
