How do you figure that?

Did you look at the diagnostics for the codes?

Go Here:

Scanners tell you the code only. Follow the steps or take it to someone who knows how to work on cars, pretty simple. No place in the diagnostics does it say to replace the fuel pump.

Why don't you tell us a little less about the car? If you thing the regulator is bad have you thought about maybe checking the fuel pressure on the rail with a fuel pressure gauge or are you waiting for someone here to tell you what your fuel pressure is. That would seem to make more sense than just throwing parts at it without a little diagnosis.

fuel press is borderline 50-52 psi, alldata end result for diagnosis says to replace fuelpump, regulator is built into it.

Low fuel pressure would not set rich codes 0172 and 0175. It would cause lean codes 0171 and 0174 to set if low enough.

The regulator is built into the sending unit that the fuel pump goes on, it is not built into the pump.

If your fuel pressure is holding in the 50's, then nothing in the tank is the issue. Time to look elsewhere.

If you don't care to share what has been done (if anything) to your car, you'll get very few suggestions.

The fuel pressure would have to be really high. You are at least 40% extra fuel

The Purge valve can cause this if it is stuck open, but you should set a DTC for purge when no purge commanded

The MAF could be the cause, but the MAF sensor would have to show 40% extra airflow. That is hard too do. Usually the show less airflow when they are bad

The IAT sensor can cause this issue. I have seen it a few times. The IAT sensor will read lower temp than it is. Either a bad sensor or the wires break at the sensor. Before the wire break off the high resistance in the circuit causes the reading to be incorrect, but not -40° so no DTC is set. Then the car comes in later with the IAT sensor DTC set

The ECT can cause this DTC also. The scan tool will display the ECT at a low number like 70° when the engine is up to temp.

Remember you are over 40% rich to set the DTC.
